Amen. Comparing Morrow to Anderson is like comparing a steak from Tad's to one from Peter Luger's. Honestly, some of the comments made on these boards sound like they were made by a 6 year old!

Well first you need a psychotic coach. Check! BUT... then you need that coach to be filled with nothing but hate and vitriol for certain players based on preconceived ideas rooted in past experiences that render it impossible for that coach to change his opinion about those players no matter what they do during the course of the season. Then you need that coach to be such a monumental nightmarish pain in the ass to the GM so that the GM has no choice but to constantly be looking to trade his talented players for anything he could possibly get for them even if the market is in that absolute dumps and only for the exact type of unskilled players that coach is looking for based on his extremely skewed and biased notion of what he has always lacked in multiple playoff failures.

Please God... don't let Sather trade Kreider for Noonan and Matteau.

with the exception of the unlikely scenario of another gm getting really drunk and offering us a young elite superstar in return, the ONLY scenario to even consider trading gaborik is if the cap situation forces us to next summer

I have to disagree. He was at the end but the 94 Rangers was the last run and he was very good for that team. He knew what it was. He brought WINNING mojo. All he had.

As much as I don't like Gaborik, I'd still like him on the team.

Just because I feel it needs to be reiterated....

Our problem last year was that we had only 1 true goal scorer.

Why go back to that?

Otoh, come next seasons trade deadline - a rowdy Kane, Hayes and a 2 nd from Chicago would be enticing - esp after a SC final in 2012/2013 and on a 40 goal pace by Gaborik for 2013//2014...

I have a hard time believing that Chicago would even do Gaborik for Kane straight up.

Dear Lord,

Don't let there be a lockout. I don't think I can take much more of this.

This^.
Scorers are usually way too valuable to be moved.
That's why you expect to overpay to have enough of them.

Hard to compare trades that took place pre- and post-salary cap. But I do see what you're saying : move a scorer who has value and a few good years left for some vet parts that could push the rangers over-the-top.
That said, I wouldn't do it. I'd go the other way and move Gabby for a couple younger inexpensive players with upside. If I were to move him at all. (But if I were the GM I wouldn't trade Gabby until he came back proving himself healthy and effective- sell high!)

Well that's where the 'pretty nearly' comes in. He did do some things to help us win. He added some grit. Gartner only had a few years left himself but Anderson at the point was no where near the top of his game and the end of his career was nigh. Debatable whether that helped or hurt our SC chances that year. Since we won anyway it's almost a whatever.

And part of it was Keenan--keeping Mike happy. Hockeyburd's post has it right there. These deals were made at least somewhat in mind with the idea that it wasn't going to be just one and done with Mike and he definitely had it in for some guys. ****--the beginning of the year Leetch was one of them. He had to let Brian know he was no Chelios. Wanted Neil Smith to trade him for Stu Grimson. ****ing nuts. Now he's our TV commentator. Tortorella may have a bit of a psychotic streak too but he's not retarded.

Good point!

How many would do Gabby+change for Kessler and Burrows?

From your post, to the computers up in heaven. The boredom of August is here. Luckily, football is on the way to save us.

You might be right. But say Kane nets 25-30 and has another night on the town, whilst Gaborik is on pace for ove 40 each of the next 2 years on an 82 game pace. At the deadline, then I could see Gabby having value, esp if we win thecup.

Personally I think we have to wait until the deadline approaches and then have a look at the situation . If he is scoring well and the PP is producing then nothing happens IMO . However , if our PP is not clicking and he is not scoring at regular strength then we certainly must entertain offers for his services . What he has done for us in the past...means diddly squat if we can win a Cup . We need him in beast mode if we want a Cup this Spring...I'm tired of waiting until next year...too many things can happen by that time .

So , YEAH trade him if it is needed only for the team to be more solid moving forward if Sather feels it is the final piece for victory .

The CBA will dictate Gaborik's Ranger future. The Rangers have 4 group IIs next summer. They make up $4.3M this season. It will cost 3 times that to keep those players provided they stay healthy. The cap decreases from $70.2M. The Rangers will need to make a tough choice in terms of shedding salary to make the numbers work next summer. NY fans are spoiled by having money. The Yankees will get their payroll under $189M by 2014. Its saves them so much money. MLB CBA is set up fir the NYY to save $ by lowering their payroll. They will benefit from it. The current payroll is $209M which includes Burnetts money. Some of my fellow NYY are up in arms over having a $189M payroll. It will still be the highest payroll in MLB but the spoiled babies want them to spend more than NYY are spending right now. Its either moving Gaborik's $7.5M or moving 2 $3M plus players. You can't have all of the bottom 6 forwards making NHL minimum money and a roster with zero depth which is top heavy.
