anyone hear how Kubina is doing? He was in town this week at a Starbucks in Center City. Huge man.
Is he healthy?
I don't know if he's healthy or not, but I wouldn't mind seeing him come back. He may be slow, but he'll be bring a much needed right-handed shot on the PP. If the price is right, I could see him back in orange and black. But I'm pretty sure they have 50 contracts so they'd have to do something about that first...
We'll see how long that lasts after Bryzgalov's first interview with the media.
I disagree.
I think Bryzgalov learned a lot about how toxic the media and the fans are in Philadelphia and how to deal with them. Ever since his teary eyed interview after the 9-8 loss to the Jets, I've noticed him being less candid and more sarcastic with the media. I personally find his most recent interviews to local media very entertaining, particularly the "Bears in the Forest." which I find funny for 2 reasons:
1) Pure comedy, Illya Bryzgalov could be a Will Farrell movie.
2) It's proven to me that he doesn't care about being sincere with the media anymore, that instead he is going to just say rediculous things that aren't even quotable. The media tries to turn the tables on him by quoting some of the things he says to make him seem like he "just doesn't care" but it doesn't work because:
a) The fans think it is hilarous.
b) The fans think the local media are bunch of ****bags too.
I think Bryzgalov is better prepared to deal with the media and fans this season.

It would have been better to sign him over Gervais. I'm not sure what upside he has besides being younger/probably healthier, but giving up assets for Kubina and knowing he wanted to keep playing here after being traded it seemed like he would make a cheapish bottom pairing D. As you said though they have a lot of contracts so they would have to make room for him to even consider signing him, but it doesn't seem like anyone wants him (so he could be hurt still).

i think 2 of their contracts slide so they are only at 48. Gervias signing may have initially killed any chance of Kubina coming back but with Mez going down maybe not. I have a feeling Walker will be given a shot early in the season since they have the cap space.
Servicable PMD, can play 20min a night and would probably sign for a cap hit less than 3M a year. He missed quite some time due to injury last season but looked decent out there for Montreal towards the end of the season.
Soft player but they could pair him with Bourdon to even it out.
I still don't understand why they had to sign Gervais to a 2-year deal when a couple of better players are still out there unsigned.
Any idea on the price of douglas murry in San Jose? I know we need offense but his grit would be nice
Ideally we could trade him for a young tweener/top 9 winger. I have no idea if this is fair value but Matt Read? Or Simmonds but Sharks would have to add, I'm sure.

Simmonds or Read for a 32 year old one-way defenseman who plays 60 -70 games a season and averages slightly above 16 minutes of even strength time on ice???
There isn't even any guarantee he will ever be again the tough bruiser he used to be after his freak injury last year. And he will contribute zero on the other end of the ice.
Seriously? I would do a Eric Wellwood plus picks but no more....

Most sharks fans seem to be ok with a 1st or a 2nd round pick.. and you want matt read

He was saying that we would need to seriously add to get him but Read is the type of player the Sharks really need. We need at least a top 9 winger, most likely a tweener with top 6 potential. That's not what we expect from trading Murray, that's the team need at the moment and Murray if traded should be used as part of a package to fill that need.
Right now, the most important thing is to just keep calm and not LOSE OUR COMPOSURE.
After the news about Lilja i'm starting to think it wouldn't be such a bad idea trying to sign Subban to an offer sheet. Let me make this clear before i continue. I CAN'T STAND HIM EITHER.
But, i live in montreal, i get to see him play alot. And i can already tell he is going to be an excellent player.
Yes, right now he makes alot of mistakes, but all young dmen do. The thing is, the way he plays the game, using his body to protect or seperate players from the puck is very impressive at that age. Plus he has alot of confidence in himself which is very helpfull imo for young defensemen.
All we need is another flyer to teach him how to man up, stand up for his hits and maybe drop 'em if necessary and he would be good to go
Like i said, as a flyer fan, i really don't like him or his attitude. But i think he would be a perfect fit on this team after he gets some Orange and Black in his veins.
When we acquired Kubina, he said that he would actually like to re-sign with the Flyers if he was asked to. I was ok with letting him walk, but at this point, I wouldn't mind getting him back.
I like D.Murry but he really isn't what we need on the back end.
We need someone who moves the puck, makes plays and gets the offense going.
We have enough stay at homes with Grossmann, Schenn and Coburn.
What do Flyers fans think a fair return is from the Sabres' d-corps for Matt Read? If Buffalo is really interested in Ryan (and I assume they're on the outside looking in), then maybe a d-man for Read is in both teams' interest.
