2013 NHL Mock Draft (Lottery-based)

I saw a thread (http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1244645) exploring the idea of what the draft order will be if there is a lockout. I thought this was an interesting idea, and I decided I would do the lottery myself, using Trae's calculations, so people could mock draft using a set order. The order I got is:

1. COL-
2. TOR-
3. ANA-
4. CGY-
5. PHI-
6. CBJ-
7. OTT-
8. NYI-
9. VAN-
10. PIT-
11. WSH-
12. WPG-
13. CBJ (NYR)-
14. CAR-
15. FLA-
16. BOS-
17. STL-
18. TBL-
19. PHX-
20. SJS-
21. NJD-
22. MIN-
23. DET-
24. DAL-
25. NSH-
26. BUF-
27. EDM-
28. CHI-
29. CBJ (LAK)-
30. MTL-

Some teams get shafted, some teams get lucky, but it's all random. Mock away!

Yeah, that's about what I would expect.

Are you talking about the Jackets landing outside of the top 5?

I'm not great at these things as it is and as of right now, I have only seen a handful of them play a couple times. Not the most knowledgeable on these things so I'll just stick to the generic top 5, haha.

1. Colorado Avalanche
Nathan MacKinnon

2. Toronto Maple Leafs
Hunter Shinkaruk

3. Anaheim Ducks
Seth Jones

4. Calgary Flames
Sean Monahan

5. Philadelphia Flyers
Aleksander Sasha Barkov

IMHO he is at about the 5th position right now.. Because he lacks the all around game and size that Barkov and Monahan have, as well as the fact that centers are more valuable than wingers. And Jones doesnt fall past 2nd IMO.

How do we come up with these ourselves?

I'm liking Dallas' chances at a top pick. Drafting our home town boy Jones would be absolutely amazing, and he's exactly what we need.

A full season lockout will not happen this year. Bettman would be out the door if it did.. Shortened season at absolute worst if you ask me.

See, this is why I am bad at these things. I was under the impression that Shink played center, my bad.

If Toronto was picking second, would they go with BPA in Jones, or would Burke try his hand at acquiring that elusive top center that he's always wanted with what's left over after MacKinnon in Monahan/Barkov?

ahah I think alot of prospect profiling websites have him listed as C, but he mostly plays wing.. It happens sometimes (Phil Kessel in his draft year).

Thats actually a very tough call. I think a lot would go into the selection. It would be between Monahan and Jones IMO.

Monahan is a hometown boy, plays "Burke Hockey" to an absolute tee, and is the centre we so desperately need.

But, Jones is as of now considered the BPA, and he would add to an already very strong defense corps that Toronto possesses in their system. He is huge and plays a strong all around game. Certainly has the upside of a #1 defenseman. Don't underestimate the value of Jones being american too .

If it came down to it right now, the selection would be Monahan IMHO. The fact that he wasnt the BPA pick, would be disguised with words like "Intangibles", "Truculence", and "IQ".

Just outside of the top 5. That's how 2005 went down too.

I think Jones would be too good to pass up at #2, even though I would love for the Leafs to draft a top center.

A Rielly - Jones pairing would easily eventually become the best D pairing in the league

Of course the Leafs would still be without their #1 center but that's another matter altogether

Edmonton picks 27th?

You obviously don't know how the lottery system works in the NHL... haven't you been paying attention these past 3 years.

I want to see a 4th straight #1 pick for the Oilers just to watch the reactions of other fanbases on the HF Boards. Would be fun to watch the site explode in rage yet again

That's mighty high talk about two players that have never played an NHL game. I think drafting is a little more of a dice roll than that.

If the Flyers get the 5th pick, they better find a way to trade up and get Seth Jones.

Edmonton had 1 ball in the pot of 50, due to them having 3 consecutive 1st overall picks. Since there is no season, Edmonton has a 1/50 chance of getting the first overall pick. They also have a they also have a 1/50 chance of getting the 27th pick.

That's what I was curious about. I know MacKinnon and Jones are widely considered the top 2, but when it comes down to BPA or a longterm franchise need, it seems plausible for Burke to choose the latter. There's still a full season to play though, rankings are going to change. Wouldn't be surprised to see Jones drop similar to how Larsson did 2011, especially considering the defense-heavy draft we just had and the center position being just as valuable as the #1 D.

I don't think there will be another full season lockout, but if there ever was, I think they would need to adjust it a little to create less parity between the top teams and the weaker ones so that a team like Montreal doesn't draft 30 or Columbus doesn't get ripped off again lol.
