Pens defense sucks. MAF doesn't look good atm.

Rangers are #1 in my books.

We are not as balanced as we would like to think.
We are not deep on scoring.
We need a righty D who can QB the PP

That said, we are better than Pens, even with Sid normally back --- unless Malkin goes career year unconscious on the NHL's ass.

I disagree with this. In my opinion for the first time were deep in scoring. We have 2 40 goal scorers, Callahan can score 30 same goes to Kreider, Richards and Stepan can score 20, and we have defenseman who could also score.

I see Kredier scoring between 15-20 goals. I don't think 30 is realistic for him this season.

We definitely have better scoring depth, though.

Rangers >= Boston > Pittsburgh IMO, easy choice in this poll.

Am I the only one who is afraid of a '93 repeat where we implode and miss out on the play-offs?

If it gets followed up by a '94 repeat, I wouldn't mind

Injuries were a major part of that implosion, as you call it. That and Messiers vendetta against Neilson. You never know about the former, but Callahan isn't going to go against Tortorella.

we have a top 6 that's one of the most competitive in the league with pitts, and their top 4 defense isn't half of what ours is.
lundqvist was always the better goalie. especially with the chance the fleury is on the decline. i admit pitts scared me before the staal move, but we're the much better team on paper now-- especially if we get a lockout and as much as it pains me to say-- the odds for that are looking high.

not to mention the health of their two stars is less reliable than the weather. if it's not one it's the other. we've always competed with the penguins. our team got indisputably better while theirs got worse(at best they broke even).

I'll sign off on that if we could win the cup the next year.

Post this poll on the main boards to see unbiased results?

(Voted NYR like most people on the Rangers board.)

Hm, Rangers take the 1 spot on the Rangers board. No bias there Pens have been a great regular season team with Crosby and Malkin upfront (even without them for large parts of the season) It has nothing to do with overrating them. If you asked me who was gonna win the cup then all of your arguements against them would come into play. Hell, let them finish first so we can embarrass the Flyers (I'm doing a lot of assuming here)

Went with Pitt because their offense is just scary ... maybe even Oiler dynasty scary.

Oiler dynasty scary? They couldn't tie those Oiler teams skates. The penguins "depth" is overrated. Jordan Staal was underrated while he was there. Guys like Sutter, Kunitz, Dupuis, Cooke, etc will not be able to replace what J.Staal can bring to the table. The Rangers have a better more talented top 9 and thats without them possibly adding Doan or Arnott. Pittsburgh's offense must not have been that scary when Philly played them because that didn't stop philly from making pittsburgh's defense abilities and goaltending look like an AHL squad. Having Neal, Crosby, Malkin, and Letang will only go so far. That's great they have talented offensive players but where's there defense? Oh that's right they invested too much money in their forwards that they can't afford to put even just average defenders out on the ice.

Pittsburgh should be ranked behind NYR, BOS, and PHI where they belong.

I hope we top the conference again but most important I want us to win 3 or more against the Golden Girls
Really how did they overachieve. Not 1 player had a career year on the offense. In fact, Richards, Boyle, Dubinsky, and Rupp underachieved. Add Nash and Kreider, get Richards back to being an 80 point player, and throw in the development of Hagelin and Stepan, and they should be better on paper.

Sorry guys, I guess I am just a bit too careful with my predictions. For years I've been getting my hopes up for nothing. I hope I am wrong and we will top the conference again

Better defense, better goaltending, more depth, more balance. Rangers easily.

They should do a poll for both conferences which can only be answered by fans of the opposite franchise teams.

Difficult to do, but that would get you the most objective results

after getting nash people either have us on top of the league or 30th overall. the hate we get for having a decent team after years of misery is unreal

Hagelin scored 14 goals in 64 games.

You mean to say Hagelin is a better goal scorer than Kreider?

The season will probably be roughly 60 games with the lockout. Kreider who has far more skill and a far better release can't score more than Hagelin?

He scored at a 30 goal pace in the playoffs. With no training camp, no pro experience.

20-25 goals is a more realistic range. He will be playing with Nash, Stepan, Gaborik, Richards most of the time.

A healthy Pens team has the two best players in the league and arguably the best blueliner. Definitely a top5.

yeah, pesonally i think they are the 2nd best team in the league. if the rangers suffer key injuries we could easily drop down.

but i think we have better goaltending, better defense, and comparable scoring potential.

Crosby+Letan+Malkin+Neal
VS
Richards+Nash+Gaborik+MDZ

it's not super far off....clearly the pens are better there, but the difference isnt monstrous...and when you factor in the fact that we are pretty deep too....i like our chances.
