Watching field hockey is weird. It's too slow and the sticks are too short.

I'd love that. Don't know anything about the competitiveness of the sport though.

It's the rules, not your fantasies. You can say you don't like or watch it, but ******** is really the wrong approach.

Love hockey and playing floorball, but Field Hockey is to boring for me. Too slow. I support longer sticks and maybe a different ball and change of rules?

It's the 2nd sport the iihf manages if I'm not mistaken, and there's good competition a-la ice hockey...USA is the top team but they lost a final to Czech republic some years ago and Canada obviously is good too, in essence it's hockey minus the ice and with inline skates ...Ohh but there's no hitting, which actually adds a plus I think as you see a lot more skill display in my opinion

Canada won the WC this year. The top division was competitive, except GB were on the wrong end of a couple of routs against USA and Sweden when James Tanner did not play in goal (great guy, played against him a couple of times in ice) with him in net GB was able to beat Finland and only lost in OT against the Czechs.

There's only 8 teams in the top division though. Tournament page with stats from 2012: http://www.iihf.com/channels1112/inl...-division.html

Field hockey used to be played on actual fields. The 1976 Summer Games in Montreal were the first time (in the Olympics) it was played on an artificial surface, and now it is mandatory in any major international tournament.

The London field hockey venue is pretty striking with the blue pitch and pink sidelines. It kind of assaults your eyes.
