OT: Bolt "I'm a legend. I’m also the greatest athlete to live"
Usain Bolt
“I’m now a legend, I’m also the greatest athlete to live,” he said after his 19.32 seconds in the 200, his fourth individual sprint gold medal in two straight Olympics...
WTF?
So he's the fastest short distance runner on earth right now. I don't think he makes the top 100 athletes to ever live...the top athletes
to ever live would be those who played more challenging sports,
hold multiple records, have championship rings, trophies, lead their team to championships, and done it consistently for over a decade.
I do not mean to belittle or diss his personal achievements, it is not his fault they are individual achievements and not team oriented, but
the greatest athletes in my book are ones who make personal achievements and in team sports, in which they were great enough to carry their team to greatness.
To bring this guy back to earth and see if he is the greatest athlete to ever live, give him some ice skates, a few weeks of training and put him on the ice with an NHL team. After giving him the puck and some room to skate, have him hip checked and cart wheeled on his a$$...and then let him try to put some pucks by a goalie, as he is slashed from behind...then knocked through the glass into the first row....after this experience, get him some football cleats and get him out on the football field with an NFL team...then Rugby...heck, then even Basketball.
Don't read too much into it. That's just the attitude one needs to be at the top of his sport. Same way a top goalie needs a bit cocky, a sprinter needs to be really, really cocky. Also note that while athletes in sports get a nice paycheck, athletes like Bolt rely on endorsement deals for the majority of their money. He is creating and selling an image that will get him top dollar.

Exactly, as annoying as he is, people tune in to watch him. Just like a Lebron James. I prefer the humble guys but I guess this is what gets the ratings.
Bolt has just ensured that he will always be remembered as one of a handful jackwahds in olympic history for what he has said. He can run as fast as he wants but he won't outrun what he has said for the rest of his life.
I would also contest the notion that he was only displaying the kind of attitude that it takes to succeed at his level of competition. He is the first track and field guy I have ever heard make such ridiculous claims about his own greatness.
If he is the greatest blah blah blah does that mean that the next person who beats becomes the next greatest blah blah blah?
Silly egomaniacal runner. He is ridiculously fast and that should be enough.
