I went heavy into Steve Mason cards when he was good. Man, what a **** up.
I don't really collect a lot of goalies, but I've got around 25-30 Chris Osgood cards. No jersey patches or autos, yet

I met Brian McGrattan a couple years back, and I want to start collecting his cards, but I haven't pulled one McGrattan card in all my years of collecting.

I'd say I have at least 10 of each Sedin. Don't collect them individually, though. Hamhuis when he was a Pred or a more recent Hamhuis auto?

another example of a sought after set with a unique patch getting big money.
This patch is a tame one as far as Capitals. It's interesting but only two color. The reason why this card will be very expensive is because it's his rookie year autograph.

Hamhuis as a Pred, haven't had any luck getting any Canucks who aren't named Sedin, Luongo or Higgins.

I collected cards in 79-80.. mostly just O-PEE-CHEE. Lucky for me it was Gretzky's rookie year.

I went nuts in the early 90's and managed to get the full set of UD first 2 seasons.

Inherited the following from my dad :

Full Set of Tall Boys from the mid 60's

Full Set of the next season.. Phil Esposito's Rookie Year

Full set of early 70's... Lafleur's Rookie Year

-Sold all 3 sets about 10 years ago and put down a deposit on my house.

All i got left are 15 Gretzky rookie cards sitting in a safety deposit box.

Nice Devils cards.

Price and Ovechkin card should be 100 if not more. A signed Gretzky card in an Oilers jersey ? Nice. Same with the pull on that Crosby rookie.

It's funny that that Crosby rookie is a picture of the position Crosby was in when he got his first concussion. Foreshadowing?

I try to keep it to notable NHLers so from that list I've gotten or am trying to get the cards of the bolded ones showing the stats from their last NHL year (usually it only shows 2nd last yr). I would add Afinogenov to that list and I don't think Samsonov's gone back to Russia but he's an FA who'll likely never play again in the league.

Also Robert Lang, Marek Malik, Michael Nylander, and Steven Reinprecht hadn't retired the last time I checked but assuming they won't be playing in the league again.

Btw do they make cards for players in European leagues that you can buy in NA (just commons). Would be cool for example to get a Kovalev card which also shows his stats from his last NHL yr.

I haven't collected in years, but curious about guys that have random cards signed by players on their own. In other words, not the autographed cards the sell in packs, just taking a normal card from a set, and having the player sign it. Value increased, decreased, etc.???

I don't really have any big ones, but the Rangers did a couple weeks of practice up in my neck of the woods (Burlington, VT) back in 1995, and I got some autographs. Luc Robitaille is probably the best of the lot.......

The KHL makes cards that are easily available on Ebay. The cards don't mention NHL stats though.

I've heard that a player signing an actual card can cause the value to go down. It's, in a sense, ruining the card.

However, if it's a 50 cent card it might raise the value.

I think they were the early 90's, Upper Decks that everyone's speaking so highly of.....

I know I have a Jeff Beukeboom, Leetch, maybe Adam Graves. I'll have to dig them out when I go back to my parents, just for fun.

Those probably increased their value. I was just searching on eBay and saw a couple of cards that are better used as bicycle spokes than collecting signed and the person was trying to sell them for around 30 dollars.

It never raises the value, even for a 50 cent card. The sad truth is that there was a major problem with faking autographs, and now if there isn't a legitimate certificate of authenticity, its worth nothing at all. It's still cool to have one that you got in person, one of my favorite cards is a Grant Fuhr that he signed for me.

I could list a bag of dog poo for 50 dollars on ebay, that doesn`t mean its worth that. A lot of ebay listings are hilarious, the guys will never sell at that price.

A while ago, I remember seeing a Brett Lebda rookie card with a starting bid of $8.50...needless to say I backed away slowly and shut off my computer

Exactly. If you want to get a better idea of what something's worth click the "Completed Listings" link for whatever you searched for and it'll show you what similar items sold for.

Dead on.

Simple rule...if a card is valuable and needs to be in good condition to keep its value, and the card is worth more than the autograph, then the value will go down.

For example a mint copy of Bobby Orr's regular Topps RC is worth a lot, maybe hundreds, maybe thousands depending on how close to perfect mint it is. A random Orr auto is worth maybe 50 bucks. I he signs that card, it will plummet in value.

On the other hand if he signs a dog-eared copy of the same card, the value goes up a small bit.

Unless a guy is dead, his auto usually can only make an item go ups small bit.

I've seen some collectors get their PC players to sign like a non-auto jersey or patch card. Not from a selling perspective, but just as a neat collectible.

I haven't done it myself but it creates a 'cool'/unique looking card.
