It takes me awhile to educate myself on the Wings prospects, and I just recently did my homework on Ouellet. I'm really excited about his future and I think there's a really good chance that he becomes a top 4 NHL defenseman.
Pulkkinen still seems like a boom or bust type guy, and even if he booms I doubt he's going to be superstar. I think his ceiling is similar to what Hudler currently is.
Pulkkinen is higher for me, but only because I feel he is performing at against a much higher level of competition so far. Ouellett needs to show me more against stiffer competition before I can view him as a better prospect.
Obviously Pulkkinen's past season is why he dropped in a few lists here. Can we see if Ouellet can repeat and continue to grow next year? Pulkkinen was still a top 3 player on Finland in the WJC and had a few really good games. He put up good numbers last season just not as good as the year prior. He isn't playing in a junior league where everyone pretty much doubles their point total every year.
Doesn't this thread kind of undermine the whole purpose of having a prospect poll?
I actually suggested it if he didn't like it. I guess what undermines this poll is I am not going to change it regardless of the runoff, there are certain rules we went with just because you have your first big disagreement doesn't change how we went about this. There are going to be points that not everyone agrees on for instance, I don't like Pulkkinen this high, but he won the votes fair and square so that is where he goes.
I think it is wrong to the 37 people that voted for him and are happy their guy got on the board, to then try and get him on a technicality that wasn't how we were originally doing the system is kind of crappy in my opinion.
As I said before, I'm fine with Pulkkinen getting the nod for the spot. But this does go to show how close the voting really is for both prospects. Right now they are tied with 28 votes apiece. Good to have lots of participation and debate back and forth with the prospect rankings.
