Yes, and we'd be giving up Subban.

Since somebody has posted a ridiculous trade of Subban for Couturier, which would be highway robbery by Philadelphia, it's important to sketch what a legitimate trade would look like.

Elite defenseman are expensive on the trade market.

- Shea Weber was worth more than 4 1st rounders.
- Francois Beauchemin was worth Jake Gardiner (better than a 1st rounder) and Joffrey Lupul.
- Chris Pronger was worth two 1st rounders, Joffrey Lupul, and Luca Sbisa when going to Philadelphia.
- Chris Pronger was worth Joffrey Lupul, Ladislav Smid, two 1st rounders, and a 2nd rounder.
- Kaberle, who was and is inferior to Subban, was traded for a 1st rounder, Joe Colborne, and a 2nd rounder.

There are some exceptions. Sometimes you can get great dmen for cheap. See the McDonagh trade.

Someone offered this on trade proposal board. Assuming habs are out of playoff spot, what do you think?

Montreal:
2012 1st rounder=Gaunce
2011 1st rounder=Jensen
2009 1st rounder=Schroeder(not as valued but still only 21)
2013 1st rounder
2013 2nd rounder
2013 3rd rounder
Raymond
Sauve OR Polasek

Vancouver:
Plekanec
Cole

I think it's a no brainer if we're out of the playoffs but I may be solo on that so i'm asking. I don't think it's realistic, just asking if you'd do it.

Every player is tradeable given the right offer, and I think this would be the right offer for Subban: Three bars of silver from Philadelphia for one bar of gold from Montreal. In addition to giving us Couturier, they're giving us the marginal productivity of Simmonds over Bourque and taking on cap in the process, and a weak 1st rounder (probably 25th overall).

I'm not sure I would do it, but it would be worthy of consideration. Couturier for Subban straight up would just be "No thank you".
Philly won't trade Couturier for Subban if they didn't want to trade Couturier for Weber. There is no trade to be made with Philly involving Subban, it's just too awkward for both teams.

No he's an RFA, that's a solid difference as he can entertain talks with any team (offer sheets and such).

Four 1st rounders?

Why would Vancouver want Plekanec if they have Sedin and Kessler?

Do it if it's the best offer.

Galchenyuk is our 1st line center of the future, and Eller might be our 2nd line center of the future.

I expect one of Desharnais or Plekanec to be out by the end of the season ... if there's a season.

forget that ridiculous 17 way trade... plekanec and gionta together i think would definitely get chicago listening as they would instantly become a SC favorite. return seems good for chicago

I would guess there is 1% chance he signs an offer sheet and about 1% chance the Habs don't match.

Theres no rush.

Plekanec and Gionta would be more than Dallas got for Iginla and a Stanley Cup.Chicago would be happy to make that trade without NJD's involved.TT,McNeill are unproven late 1st round picks & Bolland would be redundant,Montreal's gambling on TT's being a good NHLer in 4-5 yrs.Montreal would be wise to trade for TT,Bolland and 2013 1st pick IMO.

obvious sarcasm is obvious.

my rather obvious point was that you don't need to add new jersey to make this trade work.

this board's obsessions with 3-way trade really gets to me...

According to their fans on the main board they don't.

The impending lockout may save the Flyer's ***** also.

They are desperate on D though, they have a skilled young team, so the picks aren't as important. They are losing their 3rd line C.... getting what once was one of the best PMD, a creative center, and a pp blue line shooter. I don't think it's that far off but I may be overvaluing our team

Do you see a potential deal with Philly for they're young talent and our abundance of D or not a chance? Our team is in rebuild, are we not? MB says he needs to see the team, but we all watched them last year and saw few bright spots. I'm not for tanking, but a rebuild seems necessary, not a long one, but still a rebuild. Our top 6 has 4 guys who will be 30+ by November

Holmgren said no to a deal for Shea Weber involving Coutrier. Why would he say yes to that package seriously? The Flyers aren't dealing Couturier for all of China's tea, you can forget those proposals before writing them.
