Any reason for that? Isn't it how we "discovered" Wingels and Sgarbossa?
the CBA situation.

We got Wingels, Demers, Braun. They got Kindl, Franzen, Helm, Smith, and next season Nyquist and maybe Tatar.
Oh so were only going back to 04? You are just skipping 2003, one of the best draft years in Sharks history, how convenient. So Couture apparently doesn't count, you forgot McGinn, Setogouchi, Vlasic, Mitchell, and I'm probably forgetting someone.
Edit oh as Jux pointed out I forgot about Error. Actually I take it back Error was drated in 01
As I said, I was not including 1st and 2nd rd picks because this was a discussion about later rounds. But I suppose most of the praise is coming from the reputation of them drafting their big 3 (one retired already). Looking at their recent history, it is not that impressive but they still managed to draft Pulkkinen and Nyquist in the later rounds, and Tatar and Smith in first two rounds in their last 5 years (dunno how good Sheahan is). We got our NHL trio + Nieto/Coyle so far (and Couture but he was #9 overall).

Their is this kid the Sharks drafted in the fifth round named Kuraly that is making all sorts of noise. Oh this may be shocking but he actually is really fast too

Too early. Let's see how he does in college at least. The guys I mentioned in Detroit's system are either ripping it up in AHL or SM-Liga. Kuraly played in the USHL and is currently doing well at a USA camp. Let's not get ahead of ourselves JUST yet.

Pulkkinen is looking more and more like a bust. His skating isn't nearly NHL caliber. So just Nyquist then, compared to Demers, Braun, and Wingels.
I'm pretty sure the Rookie tourney was cancelled a while ago.
True. But that does not mean that the Sharks won't have rookies in for a week or so (including undrafted kids, e.g., Sgarboossa) before full camp starts.
I believe that due to CBA expiration 9/15, that camp won't "open" until 9/21 (IOW when "vets" are to arrive for meds).
But usually a week before that (or the week after Labor Day) is when the kids arrive.
I have heard nothing regarding training camp. Except that Sharks Foundation Golf tournament is scheduled for 9/11.
I think it's stupid to try and say this is better than that because this drafted these four guys and that drafted these five... Both Detroit and Sharks draft well in the later rounds. It's nothing away from either one of them.

Well that's the point. We bout draft well in the later rounds, but with Detroit everyone assumes that their 7th rounders are going to become stars, and with us, we have no prospects.

Well, I assume all Sharks 7th rounders become a pavelski =)
You're not proving any point because it does not relate to what we are talking about.
What are you talking about?
And Easy isn't going to be happy with all this talk about the Sharks drafting well. We've never drafted an elite player in the later rounds. That appears to be a necessity in considering a team successful at drafting in the later rounds.

History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme.
Saying we have players like Andersson then making a Nieto-Kreider comparison implies that we have players like him or better in the system. Yet I don't see it.
You're being overly critical on Detroit's farm system (bust, nothing special). I can also say Wingels is a borderline AHLer that had a 3 goal stint in the big leauges.

The USHL has been able to develop a pretty good amount of talent in recent history. Don't be so quick to discount it

If you pick your metrics correctly you can argue that every team drafts horribly. Drafting an elite player in the later rounds is a pretty extreme metric. Pavelski in the seventh is about as close to the metric as you can get though...
