Great game to start the season. Lorient's movement and closing down (up until the final minutes) was impressive. PSG to me looked like they did last year, very good at creating goalscoring chances and very bad at defending. Which makes for an entertaining team
Ancelotti made some weird choices there. He started the backup goalie (who's a very good goalie and who made a tremendous save), started the slowest midfield possible even though Lorient is a very quick team (not Matuidi for instance) and no Nene, who was still the second best player in the league for the last 2 years.
Lorient always wins in Le Parc.
When Matuidi came in, it changed the game. He brought speed, explosiveness and suddenly, Lorient didn't boss the midfield.
So yeah PSG was bad yesterday, Menez was horrible for the most part, and you can see that Sakho and Alex is not a good combo. Alex is too slow to play with Sakho (who was a notch better than Alex).
Absolute tripe from PSG. Their line-up, bar Lavezzi, is the same as last year yet they don't seem to have made any progress since last season. I know it's early, but I really think it won't be a walk in the park for them this season.
I think the first half will be tough. L1 is a tough league when it comes to organised defense. You really don't have much space to run around. It's a very tactically sound league (which often kills creativity).
PSG will need more than individual talent to win the league. So that first half, I think they won't create much of a hole between them and their opponents.
When they're used to play together though, they'll make the difference.
But yeah anyone who expected them to kill the league was crazy.
