Also how fair is it to compare Clutterbuck's value to Steve Ott's? They seem very comparable in terms of offensive output and style of play. Although Ott does possess the element of being a great face-off guy which Clutterbuck does not provide. Seemed interesting to me based on what return Ott fetched this off-season.

I'd say Ott's a more offensive version of Clutterbuck.

Offensive in multiple senses of the word.

His very presence on the ice is offensive.

I'd say Clutter's value is slightly below Ott's, but that doesn't mean we'd get anything close to what Dallas got. I don't know how they swung that.

Had a dream last night that we traded for our old pal Willie Mitchell.

Seems like it's been over a week now since I've seen any proposal involving the Wild.

If the season starts on time then we should maybe look at adding another Top 4 D, we have Suter, Gilby, Scandella and Stoner as maybe our Top 4, but we have too many bottom pairing guys. Though I don't know who'd I trade out of our forwards though.

Uh, irony aside, New Jersey is apparently looking at moving one of their guys. Volchenkov, Tallinder, or someone like that. Jbow in Calgary is on the market as well, according to sources.

But I look at our defensive corps from last season, and I see improvements on almost all fronts:

Schultz < Suter
Zidlicky < Gilbert
Zanon < Healthy Stoner
Younger Scandella < Older Scandella
Young Spurgeon < Old Spurgeon

I mean, beyond that, it won't really matter all that much. But on these points, I think, most of us can agree that the Wild improved their defense quite a bit. Could they stand to bring in yet another Top-4 guy? Oh yeah, but at this point, if Scandella and Spurgeon can play to their potential, I think the Wild will do very well indeed.

We could try selling some depth D to Phi for cheap. Just to free up some space, if need be.

If we're gonna free up space, it's gonna be by trading a forward, not a d-man. Probably Powe or Cullen, although Cullen is unlikely.

Strongly disagree. If we make a "free up space" move, it'll either be an AHL/depth forward a la McIntyre/McMillan/Palmer/etc or it will be a Prosser/Falk/Stoner type. If I had to bet, I'd be putting money on the latter, not the former.

So, we won't trade one of our many 7th defensemen on 1-way? Okay.

I will be kinda sad when/if either Falk or Stoner get traded but I know it will be for the best.

I think we'll keep one of them around for size. Hopefully Falk, because hes younger and I like him that much more.

I doubt Prosser has any value.

Waivers bound IMO.

Yea. The college free agent experiments didn't really pan out for us.

Me neither. Never liked him. College pick aside, I put Genoway in the same boat.

Meh. At least I like Zucker. He's the only one of the two worthwhile anyways.

That is why we should never trade Powe I actually do really love his game though. The perfect 4th liner. Great on the PK, can take FO's, hits, is gritty, and clearly willing to stand up for teammates. This year he will only be playing on the 4th line ( knock on wood) and that will make him look a lot better.

I don't think any space clearing moves we might make would net us a return much higher than "Future Considerations." We might swing a player like Falk for a late pick, but in general, if we're trying to clear a roster space I think we'd be looking at giving someone away for close to free.

You never know, to a team like Montreal who is always looking for a big, tough defensemen a guy like Stoner or Falk that can actually play minutes without killing the team could get us something of value. I do agree though if we are just clearing a contract we are likely more interested in the value of the open contract slot than the return.
