At one point, Gilbert Brule was = to Sidney Crosby.

A very long time ago.

Surprising, I figured he'd sign in the NHL.

I remember Habs fans being mad when Price was picked ahead of him. Gilbert Brulé sounds french.

So Brule is joining forces with Ryan Shannon and Jeff Tambellini, that's a quite good lineup for an european team.

Him signing with Zürich doesn't mean he did not get any offers. He most likely did. But most probably involved two-way deals and were not as attractive (salary-wise and, well, city-/travel-wise) as the Lions' offer.

The Swiss NLA has a very limited contingent for foreign players, at - I think - 4-5 players. Adding to that that many Swiss clubs are generally among the more wealthy ones in Europe, they are usually in a good spot to spend a lot on the few foreign players they can get, which makes them always a good bet for the top players.

Unfortunate. I really liked him when he was with the Oilers.

Bono probably asked him to come to Europe so he could monitor his own progress in his quest to become Gilbert Brule.

This. 4 foreign are allowed per game. The clubs can have 8 foreign players under contract per season.

There are some good players next season in the NLA.

Brule, Shannon, Tambellini, Park, Micflikier, Jason Williams, Pouliot, Noreau, Metropolit and so on... Will be an interesting season over here.

I lived through the Brule hype years here in Columbus, and while he was compared at times to Crosby, he was never sold to us as his equal. Doug Maclean poured the kool aid, I'll give you that.

That's what happens when you're drafted by the Blue Jackets.

Good questions, people in switzerland are not very open-minded in case of their salary or money.

I'd guess he may get something near the minimum NHL-salary, for sure he gets a lot more than with a two-way contract in the AHL.

I'd actually think a little more than that. It's pure speculation and I don't have any knowledge about other specific players in NLA, but something around €750k would not surprise me, at all. Life in Zürich isn't particularly cheap, though.
