Edmonton had 3 balls in the pot of 51. Since there is no season, Edmonton has a 3/51 chance of getting the first overall pick. They also have a they also have a 3/51 chance of getting the 27th pick.
I think you might have done your mock draft wrong if that is the case. Edmonton only gets 1 ball because they have drafted 3 years in a row 1st overall. Also, there should be 50 balls total, not 51.

Edmonton would have 1/50 (2%) chance.
I realized my mistake and fixed my comment. Thanks haha
I looked back at the lottery file and I used 50 options. And EDM had 1.
That's what I was curious about. I know MacKinnon and Jones are widely considered the top 2, but when it comes down to BPA or a longterm franchise need, it seems plausible for Burke to choose the latter. There's still a full season to play though, rankings are going to change. Wouldn't be surprised to see Jones drop similar to how Larsson did 2011, especially considering the defense-heavy draft we just had and the center position being just as valuable as the #1 D.
I don't think there will be another full season lockout, but if there ever was, I think they would need to adjust it a little to create less parity between the top teams and the weaker ones so that a team like Montreal doesn't draft 30 or Columbus doesn't get ripped off again lol.
As much as people rip on Burke, the guy isn't an idiot. He wouldn't pass on a potential franchise player just because he could get a good center. He's not a stupid person.
I saw a thread (http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1244645) exploring the idea of what the draft order will be if there is a lockout. I thought this was an interesting idea, and I decided I would do the lottery myself, using Trae's calculations, so people could mock draft using a set order. The order I got is:
If there's a lottery, Pittsburgh will get lucky once again. Then followed by Detroit I'm sure. Jones would be a nice consolation to losing Lidstrom I reckon.
That's how I'd have the top two aswell.. either that or COL trades their 1st to TOR, picks up an extra asset, and let TOR draft the franchise forward (centre?) they desperately need.

I think the point my fellow Oil fan was trying to make though was that you underestimate the power of the Tambo troll grin. 1 in 50? Tambo laughs, you can take that ball out of the hopper too and we'll still win.
I put all the guys in Red. Good Idea-but did you give every team an equal shot at number 1, or use the actual odds? These results seem a little odd.
I simulated the drawing of lottery balls by creating 50 options and using a random order selector, with teams having between 1 and 3 options based on playoff appearances and 1st overall picks within the last 3 years (4 years in the case of playoff appearances)
In such a case, he'd actually go to LA. 2005 wasn't just a everybody-in-the-lottery setup, it was also a snake draft.
