Angry Coburn is a phenomenon that one day we will all tell our grandchildren about.
I really think we could see much more angry Coburn if he starts getting more offensive minutes. He starts putting up major points, we could see his confidence go through the roof. I have a great feeling he will take huge strides this year with his offensive game. Let's hope he becomes a #1 defender, all that really is lacking is the offensive numbers.
I remember Coburn having a very good game against Dallas one day (was it 2 years ago already?!)... if that's what you mean by "angry Coburn", yes that's a solid #1 defenseman. We haven't seen this Coburn often, though. Coburn can be a top pairing guy, but he needs to step up his game to become a true #1. Can he? I think so. We will see.

He was great this year in the playoffs for the most part. Played a ton of minutes too
I was at the Wives Carnival and they interviewed his wife. In the not-so-distant-past of that carnival, in a prior game, Coburn went into beast mode. The interviewer asked her what she thought of his physicality. I swear to God, she started blushing, looked like she was about to swoon.

That's 'cause all the ladies are smitten when Angry Coburn comes to the party.
That said, I need to alter whoever claimed Angry Coburn was like Pronger. Really, Angry Coburn is more like Weber, and we've already established that Weber =/= Pronger.
That said, Beastmode Coburn getting compared to Weber is some serious praise. He deserves it.

Holy hell, I actually remember that game so well because of Coburn. He was so dominant that game, and I posted on a different board that it was the best regular season game I had ever seen him play.
I have no idea what got into him that game, but motherofgod.jpg he played mad that night.
I'm loving the love that Coburn is finally getting. I recognize his inconsistency but in terms of d-men development, he still does have a lot of good years ahead of him. I'm glad we finally stayed patient with a relatively young d-man who has struggled at times.
He's actually one of my personal fav players....in fact I named my boy after him. The wife and I both liked the name - I pushed for it, not letting on that it was after a hockey player or she probably would've vetoed it.

He isn't getting much love on the main boards.. was picked at about 45th best defenseman.
What I don't understand is everyone wants this elusive "#1" Dman... well there are 30 teams in the league and how many true #1's are there? 10? I think that is being optimistic. Coburn to me is a #1 on many teams in this league... he has room to improve and he isn't "dominating" but he can play big minutes against big name players...
I like him as the #3 guy. Now we just need a #1 and #2.
Number 3????? Coburn as a number 3 on a team would be the best defensive group in the league. There is no way he is only a number 3 lol. That being said, 2 years ago we were in that situation exactly. Pronger healthy, timonen younger and beastin it, and Coburn doing his thing. Coburn in the absence of pronger has stepped up his game and became our number 1 d man. Coburn isn't even in my top 3 fav flyers players, but I give credit where credit is due. It's about time he gets some recognition!
Lol, he lined up Metropolit to drop the hammer, yet still was the one who ended up on the ice. Not his most bad ass moment. I mean the hit did what it needed to do, so right on Coburn.
I have been a Coburn and Hartnell supporter through a lot of hate that got spewed on these boards. It's nice to see them get some consistent love beyond the fickle adoration they got during the 2010 play-offs. They've sure been crapped on a lot by some fans on here.
Love Coburn. A real stud, and it's amazing when he gets angry! He's criminally underrated on the main boards though. It's a bit funny but annoying at the same time.
