I think you might have done your mock draft wrong if that is the case. Edmonton only gets 1 ball because they have drafted 3 years in a row 1st overall. Also, there should be 50 balls total, not 51.

Edmonton would have 1/50 (2%) chance.

I realized my mistake and fixed my comment. Thanks haha

I looked back at the lottery file and I used 50 options. And EDM had 1.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Jones drop similar to how Larsson did 2011, especially considering the defense-heavy draft we just had and the center position being just as valuable as the #1 D.

I don't think there will be another full season lockout, but if there ever was, I think they would need to adjust it a little to create less parity between the top teams and the weaker ones so that a team like Montreal doesn't draft 30 or Columbus doesn't get ripped off again lol.
As much as people rip on Burke, the guy isn't an idiot. He wouldn't pass on a potential franchise player just because he could get a good center. He's not a stupid person.

I thought this was an interesting idea, and I decided I would do the lottery myself, using Trae's calculations, so people could mock draft using a set order. The order I got is:

1. COL- Nathan Mackinnon
2. TOR-Seth Jones
3. ANA-Sean Monahan
4. CGY-Aleksander Sasha Barkov
5. PHI-Hunter Shikaruk
6. CBJ-Curtis Lazar
7. OTT-Rasmus Ristolainen
8. NYI-Anthony Duclair
9. VAN-Ryan Pulock
10. PIT-Kerby Rychel
11. WSH-Hudson Fasching
12. WPG-Elias Lindholm
13. CBJ (NYR)-Max Domi
14. CAR-Valeri Nichushkin
15. FLA-Adam Erne
16. BOS-Johnathan Drouin
17. STL-Alex Forsberg
18. TBL-Nikita Zadorov
19. PHX-Robert Hagg
20. SJS-Josh Morrissey
21. NJD-Will Butcher
22. MIN-Steve Santini
23. DET-Zach Fucale
24. DAL-Madison Bowey
25. NSH-Arturri Lehkonen
26. BUF-Morgan Klimchuk
27. EDM-Eric Comrie
28. CHI-Ryan Kujawinski
29. CBJ (LAK)-Keaton Thompson
30. MTL-J.T. Compher

Some teams get shafted, some teams get lucky, but it's all random. Mock away!

I put all the guys in Red. Good Idea-but did you give every team an equal shot at number 1, or use the actual odds? These results seem a little odd.

If there's a lottery, Pittsburgh will get lucky once again. Then followed by Detroit I'm sure. Jones would be a nice consolation to losing Lidstrom I reckon.

That's how I'd have the top two aswell.. either that or COL trades their 1st to TOR, picks up an extra asset, and let TOR draft the franchise forward (centre?) they desperately need.

I'd have no problem with a lockout if it gets us Seth Jones.

Having Fowler, Jones, Sbisa, Lindholm, and Vatanen in our system would be downright criminal.

It will never happen, though.

I think the point my fellow Oil fan was trying to make though was that you underestimate the power of the Tambo troll grin. 1 in 50? Tambo laughs, you can take that ball out of the hopper too and we'll still win.

I simulated the drawing of lottery balls by creating 50 options and using a random order selector, with teams having between 1 and 3 options based on playoff appearances and 1st overall picks within the last 3 years (4 years in the case of playoff appearances)

If this actually happens the NHL should decide to not give Edmonton any balls in the lottery

If Avs actually get No.1. It would be such a tough decision between Mackinnon and Jones. Those are both our biggest needs.

I wouldn't say that another Center is one of our 'biggest' needs. ie: Stastny-Duchene-O'Reilly.

With how our team is stacked right now I would say Defense and Wingers are our biggest needs.

But a trade could happen or the scouts could want to draft BPA.

It would be a good problem to have though.

In such a case, he'd actually go to LA. 2005 wasn't just a everybody-in-the-lottery setup, it was also a snake draft.

No doubt in my mind, if Colorado wins the lottery we would be selecting Jones.

In 05 didn't they just use the previous season's standings and did it like that, but with less of an advantage to get 1st overall ?
