It's a one-year deal.

When was that exactly? Some people thought he could challenge for the #2 pick, that's all I remember.

He was really effective for Phoenix this season and I thought he'd found the perfect fit playing for a structured coach like Tippett in a quiet market like Phoenix. Phoenix clearly wanted to go with more size. I disagree with that approach. I wish Gilbert the best of luck, and I hope we haven't seen the last of him in the NHL.

Not cheap, no. From what I understand, though, the quality of life there is practically peerless.

Pretty much. If someone's not overly drawn to the sea or the pulse of megalopolises, it's not too easy to find many nicer spots. And when you can make money there by playing hockey, that's a damn enticing package.

you got the point.

If there's a lock-out, there would be no place for a guy like Brule in the NLA (at least not in a top-club like ZSC) if he wasn't already there... smart move

e.g. J.Thornton would play for HCD (where he's once again joining the pre-season camp)

Seemed like he had finally started to find some game with the Coyotes too. Maybe he will make a return next year.

Wanted him on the Canucks . He got a lot of offers according to his agent, but none were 1 way. He is getting $480,000 Euro tax free, a house, and a car and a guarantee to play on the top line. Says he will be looking for a NHL deal again next off-season

Not a bad deal at all. This might be a good opportunity to focus on his offensive game a bit more than he would have been able to here.

He's got it in him, I look forward to seeing him back in the league.

no kidding. A bit low in salary compared to NHL, but he gets it tax free and guaranteed (no 2 way) plus a house and car would end up making it around what he would get in the NHL after taxes.

A year before the 2005 entry draft he was touted as a contender to Crosby for the #1 pick. Not post-draft.

This isn't really true, but I certainly do remember when Brule was being looked at as the concensus #2 overall pick, with only Crosby in his way. That was 2004.

At least he qualified for his pension, poor guy.

It's too bad that things haven't gone his way in the NHL. I've been a fan of his since his days as a Giant and I was thrilled when the Oilers traded for him. He's absolutely got the talent and ability to play in the NHL, its simply down to health and confidence for him. Wouldn't be surprised to see him back in a year or two.

Brule was an absolute beast in Major Junior. If he was 2 inches taller and 20 pounds heavier he could probably have translated that game to the NHL, but unfortunately at 5"10 180lbs, he couldn't play the same tenacious style he did with Vancouver.

Still has lots of skill, though. He'll be back in the NHL soon I think.

A lot of guys on the Rangers board wanted him in the bottom-6 for some offense and grit.

That's an understatement.

Not many better places to live if you can afford it though.

He could be a really good bottom six player in the NHL. Surprised no one took a chance on him.

Surprised by this. He was awesome in the playoffs for Phoenix.

He reminded me of Bernier in the sense that he never lived up to his draft position but was able to adapt to his strengths and became a very good bottom six forward.

Haven't lived there, but have visited twice and Switzerland is great. Friendly people, lots of mountains, forward-thinking, ridiculously efficient.

Wish him luck, glad I don't have to see him run any Red Wings into the ditch this year. Him and Bryan Allen seem to always hit the big stars on our team and hurt them.

i remember being at the prospects game (was in Vancouver that year) It was touted as Brule vs. Crosby and posters were made as such promoting it til Crosby backed out of the event (due to injury I believe) I think everyone in the media was saying Brule could take over as the #1 prospect if he dominated the game. Even though Crosby backed out I think it was a week before the game and skills comp, Posters were still set up in the arena promoting Crosby vs. Brule

Although a lot of the hype Brule was getting around that time leading up to the game may have been because the game was in the Giants home arena and Brule played for the Giants
