I kind of hope they are right, secretly. I hate to see our team lose but getting another cornerstone to build our franchise would guarantee a certain success even in the short term. We are one 1st line forward away from being contender...
People will bash me for not being a fan and that wishing for ''tank'' is unsportmanlike but it's today's game reality. We can't escape that.
Hoping they are wrong; another off year isn't great for the development of our young core. They need to be successful, and feel that competitive fire. Last year was a harsh year without Markov and mostly without Gionta, with Plekanec struggling mightily and most of our role players gone at one point or another. It just seemed like an off-year. Hopefully we can look forward to much more success and competitiveness this season. Winning is ALWAYS good for a team, and helps bring them together.
If we don't make the playoffs, I want us to finnish last, nothing less.
How do you propose to make that happen exactly? If we are close to making the playoffs by the deadline, we live and die by "the stretch" so we are as likely to make them as we are to finish 9th in the east. We can't just teleport to the bottom of the standings and eliminate a great run. And I choose that over tanking an other season by feb.
20 years of rebuilding and patchwork. The time to rebuild is now in my opinion. I don't want to lose, but the team we currently have isn't talented or deep enough to win. Yet. A few more pieces will expedite that process.
Usually, I am highly critical of the THN. However, this time I think they are fairly accurate as to where we will finish. Our d is suspect and I do not think we have enough secondary scoring to score that extra goal we need to win the numerous one-goal games we have lost last season. It would be great to be proven wrong!
It can go either way. Habs lack the depth to overcome a slump or injury.
Our AHL depth is top notch though. Beaulieu can replace anyone outside the top pairing probably, and we have a lot of forward depth especially if Leblanc starts in Hamilton. Not even touching Gally.

Exactly. We've done the half-assed bandaid retools since Bobsled took over. Now we have a GM who actually finished high-school and given the shoddy roster we have right now me might as well just bite the bullet and do things properly.
As long as we end up with either MacKinnon, Shinkarov, Jones or a playoff spot, I'm satisfied.
Shinkarov is a combiantion of Shinkaruk and Barkov ? Must be a hell of a player!
We don't need any more core pieces, we need additions now.
Let's take a look at the Kings core
Brown, Doughty, Kopitar, Quick
Patches, P.K., Gally, Price
(Now this is if everything goes well with their developement.) + We have Collberg, Tinordi, Beaulieu and Leblanc who are Bluechip prospect.
And we got a good supporting core with Plekanec, Eller, Cole, Markov, Gorges, Emelin and Desharnais.
