Perhaps Holmgren was initiating some game theory with the Weber signing. Either obtain a top 5 defenseman in the league or increase the chance of a lockout with the absurdity of the cash flow in the contract. Either way, it gives the Flyers the best possible outcome.

They make a profit but depends on how you define healthy. Ed Snider makes 50x on his other companies than what the Flyers bring him. He would miss watching his team play and chase a cup more than the money.
