so what you're saying is you know more than Lou? got it.

Anybody remember when Danny Briere was put on waivers by Phoenix.. ..ah those were good times...

And yes that was before he signed an 8 year 52 million dollar contract with Philly.

Lou doesn't generally do stuff like that though, he's fairly honest about what the expectations are when he's asked. Zidlicky did turn out to be a top pairing calibre offensive defenceman, Tedenby is going to get a chance, Larsson will be on the NHL team again, Pesonen isn't expected to make the NHL team but might, and Butler has top 6 potential.

I don't see that as an extreme comment.

I'll take what Lou says over anything anybody on the internet says. Besides, he said "potential", not that he 'is' a top six forward. Honestly, I'm choosing to believe in the kid. Hope he surprises.

I could see this kid or Tedenby get a role like Palmieri

Kovy-Zajac/Henrique- Butler/Tedenby

That would be a mistake. Don't forget heads of organizations often have a party line to uphold.

I'm not saying they lie, but they lie.

Good point, can't really argue that.

Even so though, when the word "potential" is thrown around, it's hard to argue it, especially considering Butler's age and what he's shown so far, positive and negative.
So I'll still believe in the kid and hope he surprises.

I've watched some of Butler's highlights on YouTube and on NHL.com, and he definitely has the tools to be a top-6 sniper. Looks to have good hands, good speed, a nose for the net and a nasty shot.

If passing is his problem, then I'd love to see what he'd look like next to Elias.

There's nothing wrong with someone saying someone has top 6 potential.

It's not as if Lou said he's going to stuff Butler on the top line opening night.
Just like with every other player in every other position on this team, he will have to earn his way up there.

And continue to prove himself worthy of that spot, too. (Like Tedenby and Palmieri couldn't do)

That being said, the bar is set pretty low for players to get into the top 6 right now.
Without Parise and with an older Sykora potentially being picked up.. there's a definite hole up there.

Me too.
Elias-Henrique-Butler is what I'd like to see.

"Potential" means just that, potential. He has the tools to be in an NHL top 6, we'll see if he applies them correctly to become successful in that role. DeBoer is not penciling him into the top 6 here just because of what Lou said.

not assuming sykora re-signs (though i believe he does), I'm comfortable going to war with that.

That is, if teddy doesn't turn on the suck machine.

If Palmieri can play in our top six alongside Kovy, Butler can.

Add Jason Pominville to the list of very good players that were put on waivers at one point.

While it's unlikely to find gems like Pominville, Grabner, and Briere, it certainly happens from time to time. You shouldn't just dismiss a waiver claim or buyout signing just because the previous team didn't value the player enough.

I don't see why not. Petr Sykora was out of hockey two seasons ago, was signed to a near minimum veteran contract after making the team on a tryout contract. He was a 20 goal scoring 2nd liner last season.

If I cared enough to take this forward, I could probably find one player on every single NHL team that had a solid amount of success with his current team after previously being waived, bought out, abandoned in FA, or traded for being a distraction. I don't see why Butler can't be another.

Anyone ever hear of that Grabner guy?

I hear he couldn't even make Florida's team. He's worthless.

Love to hear about this signing. Low risk, high reward, knack for the net. Glad to hear some good news after coming back from Israel.

swap Bernier with Butler and that 4th line is perfect

Tedenby - Josefson - Butler is disgusting though, your an idiot for even suggesting that
