Don't you wish that they would have signed John LeClair to a 6 year contract after his first good season?

Pacioretty is a power forward. You just can't let them pass you by.

Per his agent.
I'm having difficulty concealing my boner for this beautiful man.

Thanks for the support everyone! So happy to be a part of this organization long - term.. #habs

It also gives Bergevin a heck of a comparable in the Subban contract talks you would think. Their value to the team is pretty comparable.

Wow, really nice! Both the facts that Bergevin is an awesome negociator and/or Pacioretty cares a lot about the team are encouraging signs for the future

Price, Gorges, Pacioretty are all locked up long-term.

As are Plekanec and Cole.

Subban is next.

I think Subban should be locked up at the same rate, same deal. Something tells me he will not be the type to bolt Montreal at the end of 6 years anyway.

Just because Max gave away salary for term doesn't mean Subban will do the same. I don't think he has the same character as Max. As much as he grew up a Habs fan, Subban has always enjoyed the limelight that came with his "hype". I think he's looking to get paid.

But I was under the impression that the term was the problem in this instance, not necessarily the money.

Patches putting the pressure on Subban with the long term cap friendly deal. Then following it up with some tweets from himself and agent.

Subban is going to look like a jerk if he doesn't accept the same type of deal.

It would have been over the line, like Skinner. So the expectations were somewhat justified I'd say.

4.5 is a great cap hit. BTW it's the same as Erik Cole. Looks like age didn't matter for jock eh?

So does this mean Subbans worth 5 million over the same term? Or does he have less years off his entry level?

Don't bring that up.
Laclair played for the habs for 2-3 years and never scored more then 19 goals in any year. He was not super fast, he did not have a super hard shot, he was big and was very hard to move off the puck.
Yes he gets traded to Philly but he played on the legion of doom with Eric Lindros and Mikael Renberg in there prime.

So if Pleks plays with Crosby and Malkin on the same line, Pleks would become a 40-50 goal guy for sure also.

Subban - 4 years away from UFA.

Pacioretty - would have been 3 years away from UFA once his current contract expired next summer.

In theory, Subban would be worth less on a 6 year deal signed this summer since it's 1 less UFA year if the argument is they are of comparable worth.

But Subban being a defenceman and having 2 seasons of proven NHL production compared to 1 and half for Max probably puts him at a higher AAV if we are doing a 6 year term or so.

Just had a chat with #Habs Max Pacioretty. (Yes, it's 3:45 am in London.) Quick story to come. I'll link it when it's up

John LeClaire did well when Lindros was injured, and Renberg is no Crosby.

I'm not even convinced Lindros is like Malkin.

the issue with subban is the habs tend to lock up their young players on short deals after the entry level contract to give them a 'proving'...
so does MB buy up those years plus several RFA years too. keep in mind i think subban is under habs control for the next 3-4 years anyway

Thanks. So perhaps Subban would be looking for something similar, though I'd guess he'd want 5 per personally.

I have been very critical of Bergevin, but this deserves a full-hearted, unmitigated, absolute .

This is a ridiculously good deal for Montreal.
