actually, Tatanik may be right.

I recently found an interview ( http://www.slovakprospects.com/junio...j-draft-do-khl ) and he basically said that it seems unlikely for him to go to Canada this year, BUT that was in May, before the CHL draft

My apologies then, however as you that was in May, they have plenty of room, Q would be good for him.

He`s pretty sure that he`ll play in Dukla Trencin (Slovak Extraleague - men) this season, but it`s not definite yet. He`s invited to the training camp, where him & his parents will meet with Martin Mondou (the Cataractes GM) and talk it over.
.
Anyway, it seems he`ll stay in Slovakia this upcoming season.

One thing is sure as of right now: he'll be here for the training camp. We'll see what is decision will be after but I think there's good chances he'll stay here all season long.

From what I hear , Koys won't report to Shawinigan. I'd love to see him in the Q but don't hold your breath.

Patrik Koys update: He'll not be in Shawinigan at the start of the training camp this Sunday because he's injured and can't participate in the U18 WC. He'll pay us a visit between september 4th and 6th and will decide if he stays here this season or not.

He should play in Shawi, he'll get loads of time, against top talent.

Too bad some players don't think that way. If I were debating on reporting to a team I'd think , weaker the team more playing time..

I agree with you Wildcat. Playing in the CHL is a way better route to the NHL than playing in Slovakia right now. He would get all the ice time he wants here in Shawinigan this year so it would be good for his career. Let's hope for us Cats fans and QMJHL fans too that he'll decide to stay.

Rookies

Anyone see Shane Dallaire making the team this year as a 17 year old rookie and a 10th round pick?

Wasn't able to attend the training camp yet but I'll be at the first preseason game tonight VS Victo. By the end of the weekend (3 games) we'll see first cuts.

No he's not here right now. He'll arrive around September 2 or 3 in Shawinigan. We'll see at this moment what's gonna happen with him.

It was the 1st preseason game last night VS Victoriaville. Cat won 4-2 and 1 035 persons attended the game.

Here's my impressions on some players. The best player on the ice last night was 19 year old forward Jean-Chrystophe Houde. He's got above average hands. He's making great passes and he controls the puck very well. Very average shot but he's got hockey sense he's always at the good place at the right time. He's not big at 5'10 174 but he's not afraid to go through traffic and in corners. He finished the game with 1 goal and 1 assist. A game doesn't make a season but it starts pretty well for him.

Mathieu Gagnon did well too on defense. He was the oldest player on the ice for both teams last night (20). He got some solid hits, got an assist and had a fight. As much as I like him it will be though for him to stay with the team because he's competing with Arseneault, Poudrier, Sakaris and Narbonne for one of the three 20 years old places on the team. Personnally I'd keep Poudrier, Narbonne and Sakaris.

I had heard good things about rookie defenseman Raphael Maheux since we drafted him but it was the 1st time I saw him in a game. Even if he's 16 he looks much more older and mature than his age says. He's very solid on defense and can contribute on offense too. He will be one of the best defenseman in the Q in some years.

I wanted to get a look on german goaltender Marvin Cupper too. He started the game in net for the Cats and looked very nervous in his crease. He did good with only allowing a goal.

On another side, goaltender Tommy Auger did better in my opinion than Cupper when he replaced him. He looked nervous too on the first shots but it got away. He made some great saves and was challenging the shots much more than Cupper. He was the best of both last night.

For Victo I think their best player last night was forward Alexandre Munger even if he didn't registered points. He's got good speed and he's really strong with the puck. I also like Felix Antoine Savage who showed great things on offense for his team scoring 1 goal. There's good chances he'll be in Victo for the season if he has a great camp.

That's it for last night. The Cats are playing again tonight VS the Tigres in Trois-Rivières at 6:30 PM.

Moncton traded 6'7 237 lbs Defenceman Provencher(13th, 2012) to Shawinigan today in exchange for RW Zachery Whitlock (5th) .
Provencher was actually having a good camp in Moncton. He was much more mobile than I expected when we took him in the 13th round of this year's draft. He dosn't shy away from the physical game , which he obviously does well in that department. He could work a bit on his foot speed and his shooting ability isn't the best. However, he plays a stay at home style , reads the play well , clears the front of the net , wins corner battles and clears the zone good. He also made a few nice passes in scrimmages. I think he could have stuck around as a #7 guy if we were a mid-pack team. He's definately shown promise and will probably end up being a low-risk project player than may turn out to be a solid addition. I could se him being a solid #5 or #6 guy next season. What's the story on this Whitlock kid?
