All the news via Twitter seems very promising today. NHLPA gave their proposal which didn't include a "no salary cap," and Bettman seemed pleased with the proposal to some degree.. Obviously they disagree on some things, but I think they are pretty close and it will get worked out for a whole season.

Honestly, it looks pretty good.. I was expecting much worse. 60% players share plus more crap for the players..

Only kink I see right now is the revenue sharing

Timmy P just said this, but I read it at other places also:

if he rejects the revenue share idea outright or says, "it's not going to work," then you know a lockout is a certainty
Makes a good point here.

The only reason it won't work is if the large market owners quell the small market owners. Essentially, the NHLPA has aligned themselves with small market owners and is forcing the large market owners to come up with a CBA that involves something other than the players having to give back. It addresses the real issue of revenue sharing and what large market owners will do.

Actually, the revenue sharing is not so bad.

If the NHLPA is giving up about 450m to the owners and they have to use 250m or so towards revenue sharing, it's not like they are losing any money really.

Why is Bettman still around?

Since he's been in charge, the NHL is about to have it's third lock-out. Am I wrong about this? I think the NHLPA and owners should vote him out asap.
Give him back to the NBA, then maybe they'll go through another lock-out.
I don't know about everyone else here, but I can't go with another delayed season.

The owners are the only ones who can vote him out.

And he is still here because he's pretty much doubled revenue since the last lockout

Thanks Krishna!

I didn't know that only the owners could vote him out.
Since they only seem to care about money, I'm sure we'll be seeing that little rat-faced twit for several more years. Unfortunately

Just saying since it appears you are from the UK, can you give me your reasons why you want him out? Usually it's only Canadians saying he should be out since they think he has an 'anti canadian' sentiment

the CBA thread on the business board is now filled with idiots who have no idea what they are talking about. Stay away from it if you want to keep your intelligence..

Basically it's Leafs and Rangers fans arguing that since they pay more per ticket they should get more and shouldn't have to pay revenue sharing

just walking in the door just saw the video of the NHL PA and NHL.

bottom line, Money is the bottom line.

With the NHL proposal and the NHL PA proposal today, how far apart do you think they are.

Overall will both meet finall put the 2 proposals on the table and hash out the final deal.

lastly ill ask are we getting a season or not

Yes or NO

I personally think a deal will be reached by sep 15

perfect proposal in my opinion.. He only needs a majority vote.. so 16 out of 30.. The teams who are struggling would vote this in because it gives them more money for revenue sharing while keeping the cap flat

Since it puts the players' share down to 52.5% from the 57%, does that actually mean that each player takes not only less money, but a lower salary hit for those 3 years before the 4th year option? Or am I thinking too much?

Actually it doesn't change the percentage..

The proposed deal is that the players for the next 3 years get 1.89b that they got this year and after the 4th year the players can chose to revert to the old CBA for a year..

1.89b out of 3.3m is what they made this year

Projections using the 7% increase:

year 1 : 1.89b out of 3.53b
year 2 : 1.89b out of 3.778b
year 3 : 1.89b out of 4.042b

the owners 1st proposal was at 47 right so it seems they are now 5.5 in difference with todays.

so now bottom line, is how much will each side sacrifice to make a deal
