not at all.. how is that ouch? they get him on a 1 year deal. its low-risk high reward. hes shown the potential to be an incredibly dominant player. and its not like carolina is a cap-strapped team at all. who cares if they're spending 7 mil on him? its only a 1 year contract that the owners have to pay for.

54 points two years running. Ouch. It's low risk, high cost, Questionable reward. He's never put up huge points outside of a run and gun system. I think he's a much better defensive player than most give him credit for but he's getting the 16th highest forward salary (not cap, salary) in the league next year, tied with Thornton and Iginla.

I like the Semin signing. One of my cup bets this year was $10 on Carolina at 50-1. The value of that bet just went up and that's all i care about. Thanks Hurricanes.

Something I never expected to read

Quote:
One of the people Alexander Semin can thank for being a new member of the Carolina Hurricanes is … Bruce Boudreau?

According to Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford, the former head coach of the Capitals and current head coach of the Anaheim Ducks played an integral role in him pursuing Semin and signing the Russian winger to a one-year, $7 million contract on Thursday.

Well that contradicts Boudreau benching him constantly in Washington and the complete lack of interest we showed in him despite having no natural LWers that are capable of playing top 6 minutes. Not to mention his ex teammates calling him out.

Didn't Boudreau also criticize him at the select a seat Q & A session?

I think it was very telling that Washington signed him to two consecutive one year extensions with Boudreau in charge. They clearly weren't convinced he was somebody to build around moving forward.

I think what speaks volumes is the fact that with his talent level, he has been on one year contracts for three straight years including this upcoming one. I'm guessing BB probably indicated that on a one year deal he might be worth a shot. I think if BB was really high on him the Ducks would have pursued him or even Carolina would have offered more years.

It sounds more like Rutherford is just trying to build him up for for next year to create a positive environment going into the season. I can't blame him for using that approach.

Maybe BB knows how dangerous Semin can be to play against and wanted to keep him in the East.

I think he made an offhand remark about Russians, but I don't think it was specifically aimed at Semin. I'm sure Ovy pissed him off plenty of times, too. I doubt it was a bitter, resentful rift between him and those players, as he seems to hold some regard for them still, but it's clearly significant enough that he wasn't lobbying to get one of them back - it's not like Semin wouldn't have fit a need. I think Boudreau, or any coach for that matter, has to deal with a lot of **** from all of their players, and it's only when a player truly crosses a line that they really hold a grudge; I think Schultz may be seen as a guy who did that.

carolina was also below the cap floor i think. this would put them close to it or over. why not take a risk on semin if you have to shell out the money anyway....its only a year.

I don't think Philadelphia would be interested in a cap dump like Ryan, especially not for 3 solid defenseman and especially not for a 3rd round pick.

Replace the 3rd with Pronger and you might be onto something.

I'm amazed that Murray managed to keep his job after that.

Bob hasn't really told his side of the story. While I would like to hear both sides before having an opinion, that article made the woman sound like a typical "victim" looking for a payoff. It will be interesting to see what develops.

I'm amazed that he has the strength to do that much damage to her.

Debilitating injuries that prevent her from being a producer? Because sitting in a chair and making decisions require much physical work? That torn shoulder cartilage sure must have prevented her from holding meetings (get it, "hold"?) and telling people what to do.

Either that article is blowing things out of proportion or there was a lot more to the chair shot than initially reported. Those injuries seem very far fetched though.

Unless she was threatening to stab him, I have a hard time seeing a situation where she wasn't the victim. Being an ******* isn't a justification for assault.

Yeah I'm sort of doubtful on how much damage it actually did to her, not really convinced at all

No it's not. But the only thing Bob said was that it was an accident. I could see him easily slamming a chair to the ground and having it bounce around and end up hitting somebody. Stupid behavior? Absolutely. Assault? I don't think so. A sue happy victim that sees an opportunity? The world is full of them.

I'm not Bob's biggest fan, but I have a hard time seeing him intentionally throw a chair at anybody. Like I said, I want to hear both sides, but I'm not ready to convict Bob on that article.
