Just out of curiosity, what does everyone think of Ryan Strome?
I had Strome ahead of Scheif at the start of last year, but right now it looks to me like Mark is a better player (although they are not the same type of player but Id take Scheif over him at this point).
This is a bit OT but Im wondering how Zibanajed has developed and how he will look next year as Im always watching him Strome and Scheif and comparing them.
If Hudon can add a little big of strength, Montreal may have found something in the 5th round. He certainly needs a little bit of work, but no doubt, he's got some game.
Scheifele definitely looked better tonight than he did last night. I really liked the aggressiveness he showed in throwing some big hits and getting in peoples faces after the whistle. I don't know if he was the best forward tonight but he's definitely the best positionally and it showed in his assists as well as his defensive play.

Agreed, way better game today.
He was awesome defensively and I really like the mean streak he's developed. I think he probably needs another year in Junior but it'd be pretty interesting to see if he impresses in the pre-season for the Jets.
It looks like he excels as a passer, his cross-ice pass early in the game was impressive. You can definitely see the potential there and I think he's probably a year or two off making the Jets full time as a real contributor.

Ya I dearly hope he doesn't make the Jets this year because if he does he'll mostly be ridding the pine.
Guy impresses me so much with his possession skills in keeping the play in the offensive zone. He definitely fits Noel's style of coaching too. Good vision and hockey IQ. Skating is weak as everyone has noticed but the amount of improvement in a short time frame is pretty impressive. I'm expecting his skating/balance will be even better in October.
I still think it's iffy for him to be a consensus first line C unless he starts producing consistently when he's playing higher levels of competition... But I do like how he continuously works hard to disprove the critics.
I agree with what others have said, it was a money game and Mark was really impressive.
Game 1, 2 (until he got thrown out) and especially game 4 he was probably our most physical forward and always looking to finish his checks. His defense is vastly improved and he was used in allot of key situations to the point where I would say his defensive game is NHL ready. tonight he was really dangerous on offense as well and had that killer instinct everyone wants to see in a big game.
Yea he still needs to get stronger on his skates and he will probably end up in the OHL for another year but he has shown real progrssion in some key areas in the last year and tonight was a statement game at EXACTLEY the right time.
Pressure game , Scheifele steps up , produces , plays gritty , plays 200 feet ... and plays it very well . Pretty much a statement game to me.
He does seem to elevate his game when the games are bigger or more important. His 2 points in the bronze medal game really helped with getting a medal last WJC. And tonight 3 assists in a 4-2 'must' win. Nice.
I am still wondering whether he will be a consistent point producer at the NHL level. Still some work to do, but there's potential. Another year in Jr would not be the end of the world either. I'd like to see him develop a sniper mentality. Shoot to score.
I don't comment much on Scheifele as I think I might have a bit of a different perspective than some - I got to watch his game progress throughout the year on OHL TV / Centre Ice and a few live games, and can attest to his improved 2 way play, and better skating. He's still got work to do in terms of strength on the puck, but it was his defensive game, and overall game that made the most improvement.
The trouble with these series: if a player has an off game, it's amplified. Watch him over a longer stretch, and you can see a potential 1C, or at a minimum very strong 2C developing. Some games he was absolutely dominant, and the pairing of Telegin and Scheifele was fun to watch.
I'd love to see him get another taste of the NHL, then head back to the OHL to continue the improvement, make a strong showing at the WJC, OHL playoffs (Barrie is looking decent again this year), then another stint in the A, if the Colts are knocked out and the Caps are in.
One more year will make a huge difference, and it gives the Jets a potential #1C under their control for more years than if he were rushed. With Jokinen, Little, Burmi/Antro/Slater/Cormier, there's no need to rush him.
And: he's such a likeable dude too boot. Loved the "We're getting lobster tonight" line.

Qustion for you cba nerds
If scheifele stays with the jets how many games does he need before his elc kicks in?
Is it another 10 or a total of 10 (counting last year)
One thing I have always noticed is that these world junior games are always really fast not really controlled games where guys with a lot of speed always seem to stick out because of a lack of team play. There are so many guys who have played wjr's and did not contribute at all but end up jumping into the NHL the next year and end up looking like legit NHLers. The same goes for guys who did well at the world Juniors ala (Rico Fata),whose game just doesn't translate to the NHL.I think Mark is a real smart player and will benefit immensely by playing with NHL guys. That being said I agree there is no need to rush him with the way are team looks now,but i'd be willing to bet he has another good training camp.

Thanks boys (and maybe girls )
CBA? What CBA?
It should be another 10 (regardless of what happened previous years), as I don't see this aspect of the CBA changing. I expect Scheifele will get the full tryout this year before being sent back to junior. The strength of his game is cerebral, the weakness is skating/strength - exactly the type of player who'd be most hurt by being rushed in to the NHL.
