I'm not really. I just see the team in 4-5 years as being defined more by Girgs/Foligno's intensity than Armia's skill. I'm really high on both guys' work ethics and how they have the potential of playing off each-other and the rest of the team. I think they're really the type of guys who can do anything they put their minds to and will never allow themselves to be outworked in games that matter. That means a lot to me.

I'd liken it to a Dennis Wideman situation. The team has depth in front of him that makes him redundant, but that still does not discount his ability as a defenseman. Injuries may have done him in as part of this organization, but he still possesses enough ability to make it elsewhere.

My attitude is if people want him, I'll try to help them out so we can move on with our lives. Schiestel would be lucky to break my Top 20 at this point but, eh.

Eh, I'm taking a Missouri view with him at this point -- show me. If he does, awesome. Until he does... he's not in my top 20.

I think it's simply recognition that before he blew out his ACL he was looking like a guy who had an NHL future.

ACL takes atleast 12 months to recover from. Most people in sports would say that a player doesn't return to full form for almost 2 years.

Schiestel blew it out in early 2011

If he makes Rochesters top 4... and shows that he's the guy from 2010... then he's right back in the picture in terms of Buffalo's 2013-2014 blueline.

I think that's an interesting way of looking at it. I used to vote based on potential, but since so many of our prospects at this range had bad years, I'm voting based on those that made improvement last year, hence the Navin vote. He didn't do as well as I expected, but he did, by all accounts, hold his own in a limited role.

I have to agree.

I really had no expectations for Schiestel--I was hoping that by end of the season he'd be back to his previous level of play. Of course, he got injured again and missed a sizeable chunk of time, which didn't help...but he truly is a wild card. This year though will be a defining year for him--if he cannot get back to the pre-injury quality play, with all the D-men prospects we have, he's pretty much out.

He isn't even assured a place in Rochester's top 7 the way the depth chart looks right now:

Joe Finley
Brayden McNabb
Mark Pysyk
TJ Brennan
Jerome Gauthier-Leduc
Nick Crawford
Matt MacKenzie
Alex Biega
Drew Schiestel

He may bounce back and make it. If so, great. Right now, he's someone with a long way to go before he's back in the running for top 4 minutes anywhere but the Coast.
