Crazy, I thought they would never match with the threat of a lockout looming. Good for them though!
They still need a partner for him, but they can more than definitely do that internally. Playing along a top 3 player in their respective position can make anyone change from Ian White to IAN WHITE (if you can't tell, that's a +20 +/- hike).
I'm still wondering if maybe Minny overpaid for Suter, we know he's good... but is he Shea Weber good?

I think Suter might be the better of the two. He's less flashy (not as big a shot, less of a hitter), but his overall effect on the ice might actually be more positive. I guess we'll get an idea this season though.
Now that all the signings are complete, here's the current state of the Calgary Flames.
We have 13 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 2 goalies.
With our prospects, we have 2 known NHL ready centres in Horak & Byron, 3 known NHL ready wingers in Nemisz, Aliu, and Baertschi, while 1 known NHL ready goalie in Irving. Chances are we have more NHL ready players in the pipes.
We have 48 contracts and 3.5 million in available cap space.
With the following line-up, we have an average age of 28yrs old.
^ Don't agree with the lineup there, however, I mean... The team doesn't look bad. Doesn't look overly great, but yeah, 6-10 is going to be the Flames area once again.
I need one more move to sleep better. Flames have the pieces to be decent, they're missing the last couple pieces to start talking 4-8 kind of thing.
Also quick hitter. What do you guys think it would take to get Steckel out of Toronto... Man he'd be perfect on our fourth line... Jones plays great defense... but can't win a faceoff to save his life.

I asked and the fans seem to want alot as they plan on him as their 4th line center.

To make that line-up, I just took the fowards and defense counting against the cap, as per capgeek, and made a line-up. You'll notice Baerstchi isn't in it, nor is Irving. I think Stajan is more effective with decent wingers than he his stuck on the 4th line, while Backlund might be more offensive on the wing without as much defensive responsiblities on his shoulders.
I would have Babchuck and Karlsson on the trade block before training camp for some defensive prospects.
Gio - Schenn
Wideman - Quincey
Brodie - Butler
Smith
Bryz
Irving
/I'm drunk
Know whats weird, today at work I was talking to my buddy about a HUGE block buster that would send Jay Bo, Iggy, Kipper to Philly for both Schenns, Bryz, and a first round pick.
I applaud the effort, but let's consider what philly gave up for those pieces...
Essentially the net out for philly is Mike Richards Jeff Carter and JVR and in is Jaybo Kipper Backlund... hahaha
I would love the trade, philly fans would probably rather shove piranas down their boxers.
I understand what you are saying but thats not right they gave up JVR and part of Richards for them and that is all. I don't think this would ever happen just wondering about the value it would set us up long term.

I like the creativity. To judge it, I'll use the classic arrow technique.
Kipper >> Bryz
Jaybow >>> L. Schenn
B. Schenn >>>>> Backlund
That's a 5 ">" for Calgary, 5 for Philly. It's a perfectly even trade!!
I see it as Backlund isn't alot worse than B.Schenn this year and Jbo and Kipper and huge upgrades it makes them a much better team if they believe they can win it this year.
