I went with Johnston for the highest ceiling, but Holmstrom is probably more appropriate for the spot.

Valeri Vasiliev

I think he'll be one of the best players in the whole pool but the problem is getting him to NA.

I'm starting to wonder if I'll be voting Mangene right from 7 to 20.

I'd be cool with not adding anyone from now on, but if you want to still add I'd say Harper

That's why I voted for Holstrom. He has a chance to get into the NHL next season if there are injuries, but he would likely be limited to 4th line duties.

Holmstrom. Not the highest ceiling by any means, but anyway.

I went with Vasiliev. He was rated for the second round before a severe shoulder injury that required surgery knocked him to the seventh round. I've read comparisons from Doug Murray to Danny Markov. There's also talk that Vasiliev is going to come over to North America and play here. Very interested in watching his development.

I am surprised Lauridsen didn't go higher. Gotisbehere has had a good week but jeez.

I'll find it for you. But yeah, he's supposed to be coming over to North America this year. The big thing is that he wants to rehab his shoulder under the close watch of North American doctors and that getting to the NHL would be easier to do so playing in North America than in Russia.

Eh, if Lauridsen doesnt improve his skating, he will never see the NHL. Where he is, is fine.

For Ghost, looking as the best defender on the WJC summer team over first round picks and next drafts maybe #1 overall can do that.

It looks like another "ceiling versus NHL readiness" vote. I find it interesting that Holmstrom is winning and yet Brown who is arguably the next closest to being NHL is one of two guys without a vote. I wonder if the NHL readiness crowd will throw their vote to Brown next round or McGinn. Either way I expect to see those two get a lot more than 1 vote between them if Holmstrom wins this one.

On a prospect related note for those of you who are interested, Sportsnet West is showing reruns of the RBC cup. If you do watch don't be fooled by the Johnston who plays captains Pinticton. At first I thought he was our guy and couldn't figure out why he was so slow and why he was playing for a BC team when everyone said he was in the SJHL. Also note that they often refer to Johnston as Johnson.

Eh, I wasnt too impressed with McGinn last season. His offensive skills didnt really translate to well, and at times looked slow out there. He has alot of work before he is NHL ready I think. He was one of the reasons Akeson's 5v5 wasnt to good.

I've always been a supporter of Holmstrom, but I don't see how he can be next. The door has been open for him to snag the 4C spot for 2 seasons (this would be the 3rd upcoming) and he hasn't done so. I have to continue to choose players with higher ceilings, and I'm going with Johnston. If he can put it together, I think he can be a skilled 3rd/4th liner (ala Wellwood, Read). But this far down in our prospect pool, they're all big if's.

I'm a ceiling person, but how does anyone know what kind of ceiling Johnston has? He was playing against the weakest competition as an over aged player. You don't see over aged talent from the SJHL go on to have success in the NHL. He's a long shot to even be a great AHL talent. Of course we're at the part of the prospect pool where they are all low ceiling/long shots. I don't think it really matters who gets chosen first.

I've been watching the reruns of the RBC cup and although he is clearly the best of that group its hard to say just how good he is. This year will tell us a lot about him but I'm not ready yet to put him ahead of some of the guys that are left on this list. I'm more shocked at how many votes VV is getting. Talk about unproven.

Everybody on the list needs to improve parts if their game. Lauridsen isn't unique there.

Also, how much time are these other top tier guys getting that's hes supposedly outplaying? They're being evaluated...i imagine the shoo-ins aren't seeing much ice.

He played the first two games where Jones, and the other top defenders played in. Also played with guys like Galy and other forwards who are sho-ins (played with them on the PP also). Didnt play the last game just like the other guys who are sure things to be on the team.
