Funny thing about last season was that everyone thought they'd blown it but I kept saying that they'd still do it, even with 5 minutes left.

I was actually starting to think they wouldn't but then they saved my blushes.

I hate the Arsenal board.

Another sad day before the season's even started.

Arsenal sell their best players every ****ing summer.

I wouldn't fork out the highest ticket price in europe to watch a team with no ambitions for titles.

Sad day for this gooner

Honestly bringing in these 16-18 year old spoilt brats like Lukaku for millions doesn't work. I'd rather just spend this money on players who have already developed like RVP even if you have to pay more, it's a better investment for 20-30 M.

And these kids are impatient little *****. Obviously you'll have to go on a loan somewhere else to develop, you still get your full salary jackasses.

wasn't it RVP's decision to leave Arsenal regardless?

Yes, and I don't blame him. Did he not say Arsenal had a lack of ambition? Its been 7 years since they won anything.

I can see QPR making a nice League Cup run this year... hopefully Hughes take it more seriously than Colin did

If anything Wenger should be praised for getting such a big amount of money for someone whose unsettled, want's to leave and has had his fair share of injuries in the past. Not only that but if they'd hadn't of sold him he'd of gone for free next year and that would've been a real bitter pill to swallow for them.

It's only a good deal to get that money if it is wisely reinvested in more players, which hasn't necessarily been the norm at Arsenal in recent years.

It was still annoying - but at the end of the day, I feel like his move was not just about trophies or money and I really do believe him when he says he'll always be a Gunner. You could see the genuine excitement he had fo Cazorla and for Arsenal that Santi's move went ahead. He will always be welcome back.

RvP...not so much. Again, not that I entirely blame the guy, but not the same.

Drum roll, fanfare, ballet dancers sashay down the red carpet scattering rose petals, another fanfare. The national anthem of Freedonia strikes up.

With that, I may safely make my Premier League 2012/13 predictions.

Well, not safely at all as it happens. Its interesting how the richer clubs become, the more games of tedious brinkmanship in the transfer market we have to endure before everyone puts key pieces to their jigsaw in place. Conceding that the balance of some teams may change radically by 1st September and utterly undermine the premise on which these forecasts are made, here goes.

1. Manchester City
2. Manchester United
3. Arsenal
4. Chelsea
5. Liverpool
6. Everton
7. Tottenham Hotspur (5th if they sign a top-class striker and reinforce their midfield)
8. Newcastle United (10th if the timebomb in Ashley's brain detonates or Coloccini misses a lot of games)
9. Aston Villa
10. Queen's Park Rangers
11. Fulham (swap with the rabble in 12th if Dempsey leaves)
12. sunderland
13. Bolton Ham United (with a change of manager along the way, I hope).
14. Coventry Wigan
15. Swansea City
16. Southampton
17. Stoke City
18. Norwich City
19. West Bromwich Albion (14th if it turns out that everyone in English football is an idiot except the Baggies board and Steve Clarke can manage, or Clarke gets canned early enough for a proper manager to take his place).
20. Reading

I think the top six will all improve upon their points tallies of last season and eleven teams will finish with less than 50 points, leaving so many teams bunched close together that one or two rogue results will leave my beautiful predictions in tatters.

4. Arsenal (this is going to be close with any number of teams)
5. Liverpool
6. Newcastle
7. Spurs
8. Everton
9. Sunderland
10. Aston Villa
11. QPR
12. Swansea
13. Fulham
14. Wigan
15. Stoke
16. Reading
17. West Ham
18. Southampton
19. West Brom
20. Norwich

I think Steve Clarke could manage West Brom decently but I have to see it before picking otherwise. At the very least they'll be strong at the back.

City to either win, or get Mancini fired. United Second. Chelsea to get a new manager by January.

Liverpool to finish 8th.

Lucas may have torn thigh muscle and could face six to ten weeks on sidelines. Scan tomorrow to determine extent of injury and length of absence.

Does anyone know if Thibaut Courtois contractually allowed to play against Chelsea?
