Somebody needs to throw at one of the O's hitters this inning. Unacceptable behavior by Strop.

Let's see, Dr. Andrews vs. team medical staff...who you got in that one? And that doesn't even take into account Andrews has no vesting interest in the Red Sox or with any MLB team.

4 days in October is just awesome. We were so lucky to have that team. The complete opposite of these losers we have to deal with on a nightly basis.

what's funny is if they get swept, that team "we were so lucky to have" goes down in history as one of the most disappointing teams in recent history.

the 2012 boston red sox: sports are weird.

But they never gave up even when all the chips were stacked.

2012 Sox gave up after a few losses in ST. Losers.

Frustrated reading stuff like that...here and on SoSH. This team really has nothing to do with luck. They are a bad *team*. Sure injuries played a role, but this team finds ways to lose and their two top pitchers have completely sucked since September of last year. Luck has nothing to do with anything.

luck has plenty to do with it.

injuries are bad luck. players underperforming at the same time is bad luck.

i'm not sitting here trying to excuse everything away as "bad luck". but it's certainly something.

Watching Weeds instead.

For the next two months, this should be the "What are you watching instead of the Sox" thread.

Luck aside, this is undoubtedly a bad baseball team. Will ownership and upper mgmt see the light...

Sorry, but I am pretty sure that if the team was relatively healthy that they would still be a goat rodeo. They just cant beat good teams. They are a soft bunch of sissies and prove it every night. No hunt in this dog.

So you are contending that they are a resilient bunch that has proven they can play with top teams and can overcome adversity?

Because I see a last place team that deserves the fate that they are in through their own actions. Not by any "luck" or lack thereof.

what i'm "contending" is that it's been a mix of both.

the team isn't a good one but they've been hurt and unlucky this season.

If Dave Roberts got thrown out, it wouldn't have been because the team gave up. "Stepping up", being "clutch" and "never giving up" are usually overstated things (not they they're non-existent) and luck is usually understated. It's baseball. There's a lot of chance involved.

But he didnt. He stole the base because he was fast enough to.

Lets not forget that this is about one thing: Results.

Luck is the residue of design.

He had 5 steals and was caught twice in a Sox uniform before that day. I'm not calling him lucky, but had he gotten unlucky, that would have changed the perception of that team's attitude forever even though their attitude wouldn't have changed. Look, we deserved to win that series. But you have to admit it was very, very possible that even a tiny bit of bad luck could have ruined that team's reputation.

I'm not trying to take anything away from my favorite team of all time. Trust me. I'm not. Just saying that luck plays a huge role in baseball. Huge. And more than other sports.

I can buy the "luck" discussion in a couple wins here and there and the only thing I would consider to be lucky in the Yankee 2004 series was the Tony Clark ground rule double.

As far as Roberts goes before they traded for him didnt he have an extremely high ratio of steals to getting caught. Like 40 some with only a handful of caught stealings?

Listen, with all the good luck in the world the 2012 team is still an abject disaster. So all the talk of luck, pythag win projections, etc dont mean jack. The results matter, period.

Roberts could run until the day he retired. That was never a problem. He was not lucky. He was just fast.

Drake Britton is putting himself back on the map as a good prospect. Sat 92-95 tonight. Good curve. The guy has stuff. Especially for a lefty.

The only real luck they got during that series was the Tony Clark ground ruled double
