Kovalev is not going to play in the AHL...

Probably just trying to raise some attention.

my view and probably what everyone thinks:

Seriously his time is gone. I don't think he is coming.

Kovalev doesn't go anywhere fast, not even down hill, although that is preferable to him because it requires the least amount of effort.

I never understood the hate on Kovalev. Is it because he wasn't as talented as some of you felt?
He is still in the exclusive 1000pts club. You don't get there by being lazy. I'm sure he gave it his best shot and that's were he ended up.

On topic. I honestly think he should just call it a career but if he really thinks he can get in to NHL shape... well let him have his try out then.

Not what it used to be. He was terrible for us.

I think posters feel the opposite. I think people feel HE WAS SO talented, yet his effort was questionable. I remember reading posts on these boards saying he has so much skill and talent, one of the best hands in the league, but he doesn't use it as often as he should.

He would be good with a loaded team, like Chicago, or Vancouver. Just that final piece that teams look for in the playoffs. He can't be a piece that would be looked to as a focal part.

I hope he signs in Dallas. Hasek too. That team could be the NHL version of The Expendables.

Work ethic: definitely.

Athleticism: Not sure if serious...

Now I dont know in how good of a shape he is in now, but when he was in the NHL he was pretty damned athletic. He was big, could hit like a truck (and rarely did...), could skate around the best of em and had arguably the best stick handling in the league.

It's all about ethic and attitude, which is what teams look for in aging players, so I dont see him playing in the NHL again, but I could be wrong.

He had 6 points in 22 games in the KHL last year...

Past his prime doesn't even begin to describe.

Couldn't hurt to give the guy a tryout. If he proves he can make a team, and is willing to take a league minimum two way deal, I'm sure someone would take the chance.

if motivated he is still better than 80% of all players in NHL. If not motivated or in KHL (which is equivalent to each other) he is worse than botton 20%...

Kovalev is the kinda player where part of me would be interested to see him on the team, hoping for a Jagr-like presence, but there's no spot on the Avalanche for him and there's no wingers I'd want to get rid of to make room. His 1 goal in 22 KHL games last season isn't exactly an encouraging sign either.

I'd give him a training camp invite from Leafs. Put him on a line with Kulemin-Grabovski and he will learn some ethic skills.

he is not going to play for a team that is 100% missing play-offs... Only contenders like Pens, Boston, NYR.

Do you really think he could change?

He has been like that forever.

Agreed, 39 isn't the age where you realize that work ethic is what's been missing. He's looking to pad his retirement fund by a couple mil likely, and that's it.

Kovalev is a joke.

As is everyone who said he'd be the best player in the league if he tried.
