He's only just added to eliteprospects and I doubt that gives any hint to wheter he will play for Latvia or Sweden. I think he will be qualified to play for Sweden if that option would appear so I guess it will be a personal choice.

This looks like the correct answer.

Indeed, his first season in Sweden was 08/09 one and if he already is speaking fluent Swedish, languages is another field where he excels.

When you are young it is easier for your brain to pick up another language.

Not to mention that he'd be in a situation where language immersion is his only alternative.

Defending champions Västerbotten announced their team today. Im a little skeptical about their chances to defend their title. Players who stand out are d-man Filip Berglund and forward Jakob Eliasson.

Team Norrbotten announced a squad yesterday. Look out for Einar Emanuelsson, who participated as underager last year, and was tied winner in internal Norrbotten scoreboard.

The five northern districts are playing a pre-TV-pucken-tournament called Norrcupen, this weekend, starting on friday. Results can be followed online here.

Västerbotten came off as winners of Norrcupen, beating Norrbotten in the final. Västerbotten seem to have better depth than the other teams from the north. A lot of players contribute to the offense. Norrbotten also seem to have a good team. Ångermanland seem way too dependant on their first line.

Top ten scorers in Norrcupen
1 Oscar Öhman, Ångermanland 4+7=11
2 Ludvig Stenlund, Västerbotten 4+5=9
3 Einar Emanuelsson, Norrbotten 2+7=9
4 Tim Wahlgren, Ångermanland 6+2=8
5 Carl Grundström, Västerbotten 3+5=8
5 Elias Hult, Västerbotten 3+5=8
5 Emil Petterson, Ångermanland 3+5=8
8 Anton Tumfart, Medelpad 5+2=7
9 Filip Berglund, Västerbotten 3+4=7 (best scoring d-man)
9 Jakob Eliasson, Västerbotten 3+4=7

Looking at the sizes of the players, I realize that Filip Berglund has got to become a subject for scouts to check out. 6'3"/196 lbs as 15YO is quite big. I did see him last year, but since he participated as underager in TV-pucken, he didnt get much TOI, and I have no details on his style of play.

Something that becomes apperant when you look at how the players are spread out over the different teams in each province is that junior hockey in Östergötland needs to get better. At the moment it's basically only players from Linköping and one or two from Hästen and Mjölby. Östergörland could support hockey so much better IMO. Norrköping is a city that could easily support a team in the SEL or Allsvenskan but it seems little is happening and they've kinda been treading water for years with some improvement over the last couple.

I know Linköping has taken great strides with their development program but the spread in talent is pretty bad.

Absolutely, but the main reason it's such a one sided squad is that Linköpings program has been so progressive last couple of years. Both Vita Hästen and Mjöby try very hard go give their youth and junior players the best education possible but they simple don't have enough educated coaches or parents with hockey know-how.

Last season two of the key players played for Vita Hästen (Gustaf Franzén and Ludvig Martinsson) so there's still talent coming from other parts of Östergötland then Linköping.

How is the support from the city council in Mjölby and Norrköping?

And what teams are looking to be the best this year? Some of the Norrland teams are looking pretty strong. I'm asking because i have been very bad at following TV-Pucken the past couple of years.

Are there any stand out players?

Trust me, the support from the city council in Linköping isn't that great either, unfortunately.
