he wasn't better than 30% of the KHL last season, but yea sure. Fully motivated and fully prepared, he might be a capable 4th liner that can play the 2nd PP unit.

I like Kovalev the person. Sens players used to call him the most interesting man in the world like the guy in the beer commercials. I hope he lands a job on an elite team looking for a power play and shootout specialist. Just don't expect much from him in five on five situations.

Wrong. He'd jump at the chance to play for Montreal.

Wait. what?. Do you want to teach your team how not to put in solid effort every night? He has to be a pretty bad role model for anyone trying to make it on an NHL team.

I meant it more in the terms of certain aspects of his game that young players could learn from.

Amazing how a Cup winner with 1000 points and a successful international career is considered a joke. He's not going to be an effective player anymore but it's crazy how much hate people parrot about him. #hflogic

Makes sense. His laziness and lack of work ethic suits a lockout perfect.

Kovalev could have scored a lot more goals and points than that had he applied himself.

Easily the most talented player this game has ever seen.

Yikes, Alex. One goal and five assists in 22 KHL games? Seriously?

Most talented if he only had to compete with Kirk Maltby and Hal Gill, sure. Don't kid yourself otherwise.

His skill was absolutely on par with the all-time greats. His head, work ethic and hockey sense just weren't.

Maybe the most inconsistent 1000 point player ever. He could have 1500+ if only his work ethic had been that of a bottom 6 grinder.

At this stage of his career I can't see him having any significant success in the NHL. He could make a decent PP option for a team that needs offense, but otherwise... eh

"If Alex Kovalev is motivated" strikes me as being about as rare as "If Ales Hemsky is healthy", with similar projected results either way. Neither are platitudes that I'd be willing to place my trust in.

Doubt he still has what it takes, but a tryout or a 1y/1m contract with the Habs would be allright with me.

Obviously I'd give him a tryout, I think most teams would. I doubt he still "has it", but a player that has (had?) his skills is certainly worth a preseason look.

I wouldnt be surprised if he signs with Detroit. Datsyuk-Kovalev would be sick duo. Kovy would proabbly score 50.

No he wasn't, he made passes and moves that the rest of the average skilled players messed up. Kovalev is highly skilled which would transfer well in the NHL smaller rinks with above average players on his line.

When he came to the Penguins they were without both Crosby and Malkin leaving Staal & Jeffrey as the top centers. Also....Neal was not doing so well either and the Pens ended up with the normal Staal line as their #1 line. (Cooke, Staal, Kennedy)

When Jeffrey went down with his own knee injury their center was Richard Park and whom else not of top quality pedigree. So many times Kovalev would do his normal routine and have it fall by the wayside from lack of continuity/lack of skill from his line mates.

Put almost any 40 year old on Olympic size ice and watch their productivity dwindle from the NHL ice.

I would take him on the Pens with Sid or Geno centering him. He won't put up astronomical numbers 5 on 5, but he would help a PP very much. Realistic numbers thinking 40/50 points. 20 goals and 30 assists give or take.
