Who replaces Suter in the aggregate?

Statistically, this is what Ryan Suter looks like.

7G 39A 46pts

TOI/G: 26:30
PP TOI/G: 3:41
SH TOI/G: 2:20

Who replaces what?

Josi/Ellis for the PP time

Josi on the PK. Gill will pick up some of the slack with Klein too.

TOI will be a team effort. Josi will probably get most of it with Weber but their minutes will come down to maybe around 24 a night? Bump up Klein/??? a minute a night and maybe Ellis/Gill get a minute bump.

I think we will see Josi and Ellis splitting the PP time, but since Gill will be seeing limited ES minutes I wouldn't be surprised to see him taking a heavy amount of the PK with Weber and Klein also in the mix.

As a Habs fan, I can say without a doubt that Hall Gill can step up for 1-2 years on the pk 1st wave. At first, you think that this D is slow which is true but he's like a second goalie when he positions himself close to the net.

He was one of the reasons why Yaroslav Halak had this tremendous performance in the 2009-2010 (Caps in 7, Pens in 7...Flyers in 5 (lost)) playoff.

Unfortunately, he's getting old but his positioning is flawless. Good 1st pass as well and nice vision in the D zone. All in all, I would say that he'll need a quick D beside him to counter his lack of speed.

I'd also be very surprised if DP didn't bring in another defenseman sometime proir to the start of the season, whenever that may be.

I won't pretend to be inside of Trotz' head, but here is what I predict:

WEBER + one of Ellis, Josi, Ekholm (any of the youngsters w/ most upside)
KLEIN + HANNAN
GILL + one of Ellis, Josi, Ekholm (any of the youngsters w/ most upside)

Extra scratched "D" = Blum

NOTE: I can't foresee any scenario where Hannan plays on the top pairing and I really don't think Gill + Hannan make up a good pair for 5-on-5 play.

Really good depth move. We needed another veteran with how young our blue line would have been. Stop gap till our young guys develop more. They'll be tinkering with the lines till they find the right chemistry.
Good competition in training camp. Has Blum even signed yet?

Agree completely on the pairings, and the reasoning. Gill is definitely too slow to play 2nd pair at even strength, and he can't be paired with Hannan. So Hannan gets the 2nd pair.

I actually like what this does for Klein, he certainly won't be covering for anyone now, and may be freed up to be a bit more offensive which he has shown really nice flashes of over the years.

Blum needs to be playing, whether it's on the big club or in Milwaukee. He shouldn't come in as #7 and sitting on the bench. Doesn't help his game one bit.

Weber-Josi
Klein-Ellis
Gill-Blum
Hannan

It's tough to replace suter, that was a loss that's gonna smart for the preds. Just imagine how bad it would be if the preds lost weber as well!

The plus side of this is it gives Ellis the opportunity to log a lot of powerplay minutes. That could be good if he pans out.

I think by the end of the year, Gill or Hannan is riding the pine with Blum or Ekholm taking their spot.

I also think Ellis will eventually pair with Klein in the top 4.

Other option is we trade for Bouwmeester OR another UFA Dman this coming year

I think Ellis could develop into a top-4 role as well this season, but Scott Hannan can no longer be properly used as a top-4 guy for the time being. There really is no way to replace Suter's impact right away, unfortunately. Imagine if we had lost Weber though...

I think we have guys with Suter's skill set and Josi physically might bring more to the table, but Suter's IQ was really high. Blum and Josi both are in the same mold as Suter, Josi skill wise is there already, and might provide even more in the offensive end. Blum, can move the puck like Suter but defensively isn't close yet.
