I was at the Habs home-opener in 2001 vs. the Leafs and stood for the spine-tingling ovation for Saku Koivu as he began his battle against cancer.
The vibe in the building that night was electric...thousands of Leafs fans and Habs fans standing side by side and bringing down the house for him. It really made it click in how powerful support can be and how much more important some things are than the games and rivalries that we engulf ourselves in.
From that night forward, I've wished nothing but the best for Saku, both professionally and personally. A class act all the way.
If you would have ever told me I would have a Habs-themed avatar, I would have called you crazy. Seeing Saku go down changed that for me. Having gone through scares with Berard and Sundin and a few others...there is nothing more I want then a fully recovered Saku Koivu.
Get well, Captain.
