Unfollow NHL (@UnfollowNHLSept) launched on Saturday on Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter. It's a social media movement encouraging hockey fans to voice their frustration with players and owners by un-following players, teams and the league on Twitter and un-liking them on Facebook if no agreement is reached by mid-September.
I've unliked the Canadiens on fb, maybe it's not much but atleast I can say I tried. Sick of the fans being put last when we are the ones who make the NHL (and any other pro. league) function. If the owners didnt want these big contracts why would they allow them in the 1st place? I really, REALLY want to watch my Habs this season but I agree that we need to boycott. Best thing would be to not go to any games, especially in the big markets such as Mtl, T.O., NYR etc... Imagine a Habs/Leafs game with the stands empty? Ticket prices are ludicrous yet people keep going. Bottom line, I hope their's hockey but wether there is or not we should really unite and do something about being ''forgotten'' by the league (players and owners alike).
If you want to do something why don't you petition the Prime Minister of Canada to introduce back-to-work legislation for all players on Canadian-based teams.

If he is a Leaf fan it might give them a chance to make the playoffs
Money, cash, moolah: thats what talks the loudest! Have a movement start saying that fans will NOT attend any NHL game until the owners start acting like intelligent people and not kiddies and then the numbers and lack of money and attendance will make things move.
The owners are not the bosses of this sport, WE ARE!! No team can operate in front of nearly empty arenas! WE make the rules not them... Ultimately WE decide!
This generation is confused... movements aren't really movements if doing it from your seat.
Meh, I just don't think its worth a movement. You wont abandon the sport if you care that much. Apathy is the real danger, its why I didn't watch a basketball game last year.
War, corruption, government policies, charity movements, human rights and oppression of said rights are worth protest, not billionaires and millionaires bickering. Especially when said people know very well that a prolonged labour dispute can hurt them all.

I don't even know where to start with this comment. First of all, this is not a 'movement' and I wouldn't label it as such.
Furthermore, you do know that political activity and civil society evolves with each era right? The internet, and other information mediums will always play a very large role in grassroots movements. They are used in interest groups (registration, mail information, internet, newspapers ect) through their various information campaigns. These mediums are also at the core of many movements because of their ability to unite people from different regions and expand awareness quickly.
This is the information age, you are expecting things not to have an internet component to it?

If I ever could "like" a post on this ****** board, this would be it.
You want to boycott the NHL? Don't give money to get channels like TSN/RDS.
Don't buy tickets.
Don't buy products.
Don't buy ANY Molson products.
That's how you show your discontent with something. You use your wallet.
