Certain facts are insescapable.

1) Mr. Doan has been offered about 30 million for 4 years(if we are to believe his agent-if we are to disbelieve all/any "official" statements about contracts then ALL discussions on that topic are pointless)

2) That the Coyotes would be in a position to offer a comparable contract in salary and length of contract is, at best, doubtful.

3) If Mr. Doan turns down more lucrative offers to stay in Glendale, he is ignoring money that is there for the taking and that he would be introducing into the family coffers.

4) To say that people are happier staying among their friends and in the community within which they are comfortable is an entirely subjective judgement.
An objective equation remains: Mr. Doan is shortchanging his family's potential wealth if he accepts a contract paying him X dollars for X amount of years(from Glendale) while declining contracts offering X(x2) dollars for X(x2) years.
I smell a contradiction, but continue to feed the trolls if you feel you must.

I honestly don't think it will be about the money with Doan, unless we completely lowball him. That's just my gut speaking though.

Doan has made it brain dead simply clear that he wants to be here. The fact that he is still unsigned speaks to that. When the ownership is done, so will be his contract. Maloney will not lowball him, Doan will get a contract at fair market value. He will not endanger the finanacial health of his family with his selfishness. That is just my gut speaking too.

I believe that I seen a quote from Maloney about the Coyotes would be willing to give Doan any kind of contract, term, or 1 year, and they would outbid anyone out there and are currently ~ $12 Mil under budget. I do believe that Doan won't ask the Coyotes for a 4 year - $28Mil contract.

That is ironic because a minute later my household will get Shane jerseys

That would be cool! Unless of course the Coyotes personnel was the guy who cleans the concession stand? Just kidding... I hope that's true!

Hopefully he's not the friend who told you the sale closed last week.

I was going to do the same thing when he signs! I wore #19 when I raced motorcycles, and now in hockey, so his jersey would be the completed set!

That's a bit pricy for Doan, but he deserves it and I just want to see him play for the Yotes.

99% sure by word of mouth = 2 weeks in my opinion, but maybe I'm just a sour puss.
Either way, thanks for sharing. I would love to wake up to a headline saying "Doan re-signs with Phoenix."

Not only would i feel a hell of a lot better about our future, i believe that would say a lot about the sale. Plus, i feel like after Shane makes his decision is when Maloney will start making moves. So far we've lost 3-4 roster players and only gained 2. I think that'll change after the Doan signing, wherever that may be.

I watched Doan and his brother Brook on Mantracker the other day, and it would just suck to lose such an amazing guy. I would be more than happy to give him 22 million over for years. We need to reach the cap floor, and plus, you can't buy that kind of leadership. Hope your friend was right!

i guess we will see today if there's any truth to it

I love Shane as a person and for his contributions to the franchise and no doubt, his loyalty. But I don't know if I can stomach another 4 years of Doan as a player. He is clearly in decline and is more fit for a 2nd line/3rd line support role - the kind he would most likely get in a place like NY.

Seriously, though. As much as I would love Doan on the Pens, he is a Coyote. The Coyote.

Hopefully he re-signs.

I can easily take Doan for another four years. At least one more year, maybe two and three if we're lucky he'll be good enough for the second line and for that retirement year we put him on the bottom six because he's a damn good defensive forward.

Alternatively, we hire someone to kick him in the groin once before every game because angry Doan is ****ing scary on the ice. Sure, he'll rack up a suspension here and there but when he is pissed he will score AND hurt and scare the rest of the team into performing their very best.

Ain't that the truth! When Doan gets pissed he plays on a whole other level, I almost feel sorry for the other team when he's like that. Almost!

This was tweeted out yesterday and since it is a slow day and having constant reassurance is great, I found an article on it:

NHL Rumors: Shane Doan Set To Remain With Phoenix Coyotes?
Quote:
As the days wear on, the chances of Doan remaining in Phoenix only seem to increase. And several reports within the Phoenix area have Doan heading in that same “when, not if” description as the ownership saga.

This shouldn’t come as any sort of surprise. Though Doan has talked to several teams, no one has really taken the thought of him in a sweater that didn’t have a coyote head on it seriously.

For an extra 3 million (assuming 7 vs 4) per year he could take his kid's best friends families with them to their new location and still be better off financially and keep the kids happy.
