Pittsburgh - Colorado

To Pittsburgh: Jamie McGinn and Jan Hejda.
To Colorado: Paul Martin, Tyler Kennedy and a 2013 2nd or 3rd round draft pick.

Pittsburgh gets a top 6 forward (Jamie McGinn) and a shutdown defenceman (Jan Hejda).

Colorado gets Paul Martin (a good two-way defenceman) who can play with Erik Johnson as a top pairing defenceman, Tyler Kennedy can play as your bottom-6 gritty forward and Colorado also gets a 2013 2nd or 3rd round draft pick.

However Paul Martin has a no-trade clause, i'm not sure if he would waive it to go to Colorado.

I don't like it from Colorado's perspective.

LOL, we're not going to trade McGinn for Martin of all people. (not trying to sound mean)

We want Depres if it comes to your defense core.

I'm sorry but Simon Despres is not available I guess Pittsburgh and Colorado aren't good trading partners.

Yup, sounds like it.

And Martin is really not that good. We have a bunch of depth defensemen already and don't need another one.

If you guys still had Michalek I think we would be VERY interested in. After trading him our next favourite would consist of Despres and Morrow, which you guys have no interested in trading in.

The problem is McGinn is the best player in the deal. Even though Kennedy is a decent player, McGinn is the super-sized version of him. Then including Hejda makes the deal that much more worse.

I would trade those two for Despres and a little bit more.

We need McGinn A LOT more than we need Kennedy because McGinn can play in a scoring role. I guess we do need a Martin type player more than a Hejda type but with the addition of McGinn and Kennedy it doesn't make sense for Colorado.

I wouldn't mind picking up Paul Martin, I know a lot of my fellow Avs fans would disagree with that but if we could pick Martin up that would be good for our defense since we don't really have anybody like him in our defense right now.

Give them SOB. All the problems on our team are now solved.

I agree with you. Martin would be a fine complement to EJ on the top pairing.

He's not Bobby Orr, but he definitely has value, and I think it may be a case of a bad fit more than anything else in Pittsburgh. If he could be had for reasonable value, I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Is Shane O'Brien that bad of a defenceman?

No he's actually decent, but he thinks he's Bobby Orr and tries to stickhandle through the whole damn team. He was getting lessons from Duchene.

Basically he would be very effective if he plays a simple game, problem is......he can't.

He would actually look good in your defensive system. I wouldn't mind Martin and I wouldn't mind trading SOB for him, but hiscontract is brutal.

Martin has negative HF value right now. Of course, his real-world value is far from that, but until he rebounds from HIS ONE BAD SEASON SINCE THE LOCKOUT, trade proposals involving him are useless.

No use in even mentioning him in proposals until such time, really.

We have no need for Shane O'Brien. We already have Engelland, who fits that bottom pairing tough guy role as well as we could ever hope.

Yep because Martin hasn't spent a lot of time playing on top pairings in his career or anything.
