OT Hockey Cards

Hey everyone, I recently recaptured my inner 14 year old adolescence and decided to start collecting hockey cards again. It's incredible the enjoyment you get out of it, even now 12 years later than when I once collected avidly.

Curious, anyone on here collect cards still? Or have any they're looking to sell? I'm mostly dealing in Upper Deck series 1/2, or black diamond.

Share your stories if you have any!

Cheers from NL

Kind of. I helped my son collect them (which means I bought him cards that I wanted). This is one of my favorites:

I thought about getting all three of them to sign it at practice one winter, but never did.
I still have a bunch of Flames cards that I saved from when I was a kid.

My uncle is Harold Phillipoff, played for the Flames in the late 70s. I still have his card haha.

Hmmmm, just checked and I don't seem to have that one. Most of the Flames cards I have are from '78 and '79 though.

Edit: We got some really cool Upper Deck cards at the All-Star Game in Atlanta. All-Star Game Exclusives of Kovy, Hossa, Crosby, Price, Toews and Patrick Kane.

Edit 2: Dang it, ICN. Now I'm looking at Jets cards on eBay!

I have also started collecting again. There is so much stuff out there that I only collect Winnipeg Jets 1972-present.

I collect mostly Thrashers/Jets stuff, Kovalchuk stuff, and Ducks stuff.

Here are some of my newest pickups:

That Kovy, Antro, Max card is one of my favorites too.

The thing that confuses me though is the set that card came in supposedly was released in December of 08 and there is not really a common theme with those three players. What are the odds that all three of those guys would end up being on the same team less the next season? It's like they predicted the future.

And I'm jealous about those All Star exclusives. I have the Kovy and Hossa but have never been able to find the others.

They were like 3 bucks a pack at the game.
Also found the McFarlane Kovy and Hossa figures pretty cheaply at the All-Star Game.

I, uh, also had Todd sign a Spider-Man book for me there too... <ahem>

Man, I just can't bring myself to abbreviate All-Star Game.

I used to collect cards. Could get a pack of opeechee for 45 cents from a vending machine in the early 90's. I was thinking of getting back into it but there are so many different variations of sets it's hard to follow plus it's so much more expensive now. It's like 5 cards in a pack for $7 or something.

Collected really heavily for a few years, I've got a very nice personal collection. It does get quite expensive though.

I am looking to downsize on some of my stuff. I have a lot of jersey cards, autograph cards, rookie cards... PM me with a list of what you're looking for. I'd like to sell.

Score is still a fairly cheap set ($1 per pack). Fun and cheap for the kids to collect. My son got a Scheifele rookie in Score...he was pumped. No terrible gum anymore though...

Thanks for the discussion guys. Those are some awsome cards! I purchased a pack yesterday and received a Gabriel Landeskog Young Guns rookie card series 1. Needless to say I was like a kid at Christmas when I unwrapped it.

Anyone else with any card pictures or stories by all means do tell, love to hear about or see them.

Anyone purchase any cards on eBay or from other sites? There's a few I'd like to get my hands on.

The only card that I kept of note is a rookie Gretzky card.

I've been buying cards on e-bay and from some shops in Winnipeg.

Over the past 5 years I have probably bought 10 000 ++ Winnipeg Jets hockey cards. Many cards are in duplicate. I believe that I have most of the Jets cards ever made from 1972-1996.

Edit: I also own the jersey that Mark is wearing in the hockey cards. The photos were taken during the 1st Jets win against the Penguins and verified to me by the card companies. It is the pinnacle of my collection.

I bought a box of Upper Deck series one last year and got a Parise and Eberle jersey card in it. I was more interested in the Atlanta/Winnipeg cards in the set and have since bought singles as I don't care too much to have the other team players cards.

It can be pricey but Score puts out packs for $1 which is very cost effective! This year I want to buy team sets from some of the larger sets and Upper Deck series one and two.

I purchased a couple Stuart cards from last year's OPC set off of ebay as I didn't have any of his cards. (He doesn't have a card in a Jets jersey until this year) I needed something for his to sign at the Jets Draft Party. When he was signing it, I told him that there were no Jets versions of him but yet there were plenty of Bogo's cards in a Jets uni. He looked at me and said "Are you surprised? They always take care of..." and then I added "the pretty boys?"... he laughed and said "you got it!". I told him that I would be getting my hands on some Jets cards this season with him (OPC has a M Stuart card on the checklist!) and will get his autograpgh again! He's a great guy and loves chatting with the fans!

I hope to get my picture with Stuart and Bogo signed one day too... I'm printing the picture on an 8x10 and framing it!

Since were chatting hockey cards... anyone interested in doing some trades? I have some non-jets cards, base cards and inserts that I'll gladly trade for Jets goodies. PM me.

We did an article about this subject back in 2009. Still relevant today;

I collect old cards. I am still collecting the 1910 through 1912 Imperial Tobacco cards. I have the Vezina rookie, Bobby Hull, Wayne Gretzky, Morenz. I also collect Bill Mosienko memorabilia. I have the worlds largest by a long shot.

What is a good place to pick up cards in Winnipeg? Probably would only want select players or Jets, so I wouldn't really bother buying packs.

I have a big box of Jets cards from the 80s and 90s. I got rid of most of my hockey card collection back when I was a kid, but I held on to Jets cards (from various years, makes and sets) after the team moved, for nostalgia purposes.

When the Jets came back, I realized I still had the box, and took a look inside. Pretty awesome. I have the whole set of (1994?) Jets bookmarks with quotes from each player about literacy, plus a ton of other ****. I think there are 20-something Essensa cards (lots of repeats) in there.

Also, I have the card of Burton Cummings in a Jets jersey.

I have no clue what I'm going to do with any of this stuff. I have absolutely no clue what hockey cards are worth these days, and these aren't in plastic cases or anything, they're just loose in a box, so I doubt I'd get much money for them if I brought them to a card store.

I'll probably just hold on to them for lack of any better option.

Do you have a Bryan "Butsy" Erickson card? Butsy Fact of the Day: Butsy and Byfuglien are from the same town (Roseau, MN).
