If we assume Bertuzzi takes Homer's role on the PP in that case, and he performs adequately, then Tootoo is a RIDICULOUS improvement. He also is better than Abs, Miller, Emmerton, or Eaves on the PK.
Tootoo was 11th on the Predators in TOI/game last season. Not a 3rd liner, so he doesn't have any claim to being among the best 3rd liners in the league. He was a healthy scratch for much of the playoffs. If SHTOI/game is any indication (and it usually is), Tootoo isn't close to any of those players in terms of PK ability. He averaged 3 seconds of SH TOI last season. And it's not as though he was being saved for crucial ES or PP minutes like a coach would do with a Datsyuk or Fedorov type player. He's a fourth liner. He hits and agitates. He's not a PKer.

Couldn't agree more. He is the one lonely forward that isn't used at special teams.

Usually every team uses 7 forwards on the power-play and 4 forwards as the main penalty-killers. It leaves one guy out from special teams and next season that spot is guaranteed for Tootoo. 4th line, right wing.

This is spot on. Some people just love pumping the tires of players and making them out to be something other than what they are. Gotta love that whopping 0.07 mins per 60 mins that Tootoo got being the legendary PK'er that he known as being. I have come to accept Tootoo as a DRW and I think he'll be fine as an ES 4th liner. If he's getting regular IT on the third line we are seriously ****ed.

We'd have to trade for John Tavares and put him on the 4th line.

Tootoo Tavares Tatar

The correct answer is Iginla. Iginla an elite winger, is acquired to play center between Tootoo and Tatar. Now to think of a clever line name.....

Andrew Murray

Does anyone see Murray finding his way into the lineup? I personally think he brings just as much to the table as Gator. Good grinder to plug in the 3rd or 4th line.

Pretty unlikely, considering he signed with St. Louis.

Hannan and Gill. LOL. Nashville games are going to look like the puck handling drill at the skills competition.

Unless they get paired together, in which case it'd be the bizarro fastest skater competition Man, I hope that happens!

Good eye! I didn't know that happened. I just remembered him getting traded here from SJ and noticed nobody mentioning him when talking about our 4th line. Thanks!

But what's his motivation? Dead parents? Defending the honor of his chair throwing GM? Learning the backstory of how Zdeno Chara was left in a pit and has to rely on a mask in feed him pain meds while he lives in the sewers between games?

Bump. NHL is back.

How will the lineup look like? man we got to many forwards.

Filppula - Datsyuk - Samuelsson
Franzén - Zetterberg - Brunner
Bertuzzi - Helm - Cleary
Miller - Abby - Tootoo
Mursak - Emmerton - Eaves
Nyquist - Andersson - Tatar

Thats 6 NHL calibre lines.

The thought of Samuelsson playing with Dats instead of Nyquist makes me sick, especially cause there is a good chance that it happens. I really like putting Fil and Dats together though, and moving Franzen to Z's line. But Damn we definitely have to many forwards, I would love to see if we could get some picks for some of those bottom sixers.

He's been out for 2 months but was supposed to play again on Tuesday. Too bad he couldn't get a couple of games before the deal was done to get back to game shape before camp.

Ok, so now the trades start coming right?

No use to just waive kids. They let them battle out for the spots, and make moves accordingly. Maybe they won't put upgrade on D if it starts fine, we'll see.

Nyquist-Dats-Flip.
Franzen-Z-Brunner
Cleary-Helm-Sammy
Bert-Abby-Tootoo
Mursak

Miller has value, he walks after this season anyway so trade him. I like him but he's nothing that could not be replaced. Bert is pretty much guaranteed a spot. Emmerton can be traded or waived or whatever. Eaves on IR. Tatar on GR.

Maybe trade Cleary if there's chance for upgrade on D. I like him, I think he'll bounce back from last season somewhat but he walks/is let walk after this season anyway and has some value and could be replaced anyway. Bert/Mursak/Abby on his spot.

edit. oh yeah and start contract extension talks with Flip. If they don't work out, trade him. For picks, prospects, D upgrade whatever. Preferably D ofc.

I wouldn't want to trade him but if he wants too much or doesn't want to re-sign.. I would want even less to want him for nothing. We don't have lots of assets at this point, we have lost too much of them over the years. He would be hard to replace but it can be done. Bert/Sammy/Tatar/Cleary, some of those could easily be still/already top6 player. That is assuming Brunner pans out and Nyquist is ready for challenge..

I really can't see where Emmerton fits in this year. It would be sad if Nyquist or Brunner had to stay in GR in order to keep Emmerton from getting claimed off waivers. A somewhat realistic scenario, though.
I hate the Samuelsson signing btw. Would actually rather have Holmstrom in the press box and Nyquist playing than Samuelsson occupying a roster spot for the next two years.

REALISTIC LINEUP:
Franzén - Datsyuk - Samuelsson
Filppula - Zetterberg - Brunner
Cleary - Helm - Bertuzzi
Miller - Abdelkader - Tootoo
Emmerton - Mursak
Nyquist in GR, waiting for someone to get injured

MY CHOICE
Franzén - Datsyuk - Nyquist
Filppula - Zetterberg - Brunner
Cleary - Helm - Samuelsson
Tatar - Abdelkader - Mursak
Tootoo - Miller

Bertuzzi bought out, waived or traded
Emmerton, waived or traded
