Malkin two years before UFA

Simple question here: Should Geno leave the Pens after his current conract expires?
All opinions are welcomed.

Should he? Probably, his individual accolades would be phenomenal if he was given 1st line wings and minutes 100% of the time.

Will he? No.

Imagine the price tag if he became a UFA? Max contract for sure.

Malkin loves playing in Pittsburgh, has had a ton of success there, the team will commit a ton of money to him, and he just found the most perfect winger he could hope for...which the team has long-term.

Malkin shouldn't, and won't, leave the Pens in 2015.

That's something people need to learn NOW, so we don't get 500 "value" threads a day next year.

1, Malkin was raised to be a team-first and humble player, as of now he sees the Pens as his team for life.

2, He has - literally - said "I shouldn't make more money than Sid", so he Pens will EASILY be able to afford him(If he takes the same amount, then his contract coming off the books covers his next one).

3, and he doesn't. DOESN'T. Like being in the spotlight.
Just go look at his texts to Shero and even Talbot, he couldn't fathom why Talbot would switch teams, he doesn't get the money factor at all.

Malkin always seemed very "North American" to me in terms of off the ice mentality.

He will probably sign a deal identical to Crosby (just like the last time) and stick with Pittsburgh to chase another cup.

To try to reach the top of his talent he must do this, i think. But when you think about his personality you understand that it is almost impossible. He is too humble to be the guy in the dressing room, as it what will be needed to run his own team. He also is too loyal to his current organization and fans.
I'm just going crazy when i think he can play, for example, with Nash and Gaborik in the same line.

The face has deadened people's sense of sarcasm on this forum.

Why, he said that. If he takes the same amount as sid did they will easily be able to afford him.

What's funny.

That is exactly what he said. . .

The Pens were ready to offer them both(87 and 71) a lot more money than what they got, Sid didn't want to handcuf the team so he took a paycut at the cheeky number of 8.7 per year. They were still going to offer Malkin more money but he didn't want to make more than Sid so he took the same number. This is. . . Pretty common knowledge.

They were both given essentially blank checks and told "have at it".

The Penguins got very, VERY lucky with these two gentleman. But no, have fun predicting him to leave. It won't happen.

He should come to Columbus to play with Ric... RJ Umberger.

But seriously, he's not going anywhere.

he should leave because if he doesn't he will always play second fiddle to sid and people won't realize just how good he is. he's better than crosby

I personally think he should leave because it's unfair to have the 2 best players in the league on one team, unless they're twins.

He and Crosby haven't been able to produce at their peak levels when they are both on the ice. I think the pens have a bit of an identity crisis when they are both on the ice, with no one sure who is supposed to be the go to guy. I think it would be beneficial to leave and be the superstar #1 forward that he is with no confusion about it throughout the organization he joins.

waiting to see the emoticon, but no luck...

since when do teams have to be "fair" to other teams in the league in re-signing their superstar talent?

Well he currently plays with at least one first line winger in Neal (quite a good one, I might add), and his TOI is very similar to Crosby's. He also has the benefit of getting easier minutes thanks to Crosby and Staal/Sutter. I honestly think it'd be hard for him to find a team where his scoring situation is better, despite the fact that he's often considered second fiddle to Crosby.

Pretty sure they've managed to succeed at the same time before. I seem to remember something about a Cup, with Malkin and Crosby getting the two highest post-season totals since the lockout.

In fact, it resulted in the Pens being the only team other than the Red Wings to make it to two Finals since the lockout.

So...individually and team-wise, they appear to be able to succeed together.

Read my what I wrote about the face a few posts before. And I'm not saying it's what's best for the Penguins, or even for Malkin. I think the league would be better as a whole if he signed elsewhere, like Buffal or Toronto or somewhere that needs a 1st line centre.

On another note, I wonder how many people thought Messier should play for another team when he was on the Oilers, or Fedorov when he was on the Wings.
