Hey guys,
Over on the rangers board, we have a fantasy gm game going and I'm the wild. Before you think I'm jumping on the suter and parise bandwagon, we started with 2010-2011 lineups, but now we're resetting due to some internal issues. Anyway, while I've done my research and have some idea of prospects, team needs, etc, I was wondering if you guys could share some fan's perspective. Basically anything that would help me run the team successfully would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot guys and hope you don't mind me making this thread.
We have a top 20 Wild prospects poll going on right now. That should help you figure out who us fans value and have high expectations for. #'s 1-9 were near consensus, which speaks volumes to the quality of our pool. As you might have figured, that was a big reason why Suter and Parise chose to sign here.
If we're going by current needs, we need a top 4 D.. And another top 4 D..
When we were going by 10-11 my main goal was getting dmen. But now we're restarting with current rosters as of now, so more or less the same targets, just with alot less cap room.

The ideal move would be to trade for a top 4 D-man that has only 2-3 yrs left on his contract.
Clutterbuck would be a good player to use in such a trade, and many of us believe Phillips is a likely prospect to be packaged in such a deal.
That gives the Wild the top 4 defenseman they need now, while allowing both Brodin and Dumba time to develop into that very role to replace that defenseman when his short contract is up.
Also, may be better to do as a deadline deal for cap reasons, but no need to worry about cap implications into the future as the Wild will be clearing massive space again next summer with some big expiring contracts.

The problem there, you have to pay more for longer to get a top 4 defender. Via trade you can get a cheaper shorter commitment, leaving room for developing prospects, which imo is more ideal.
Clutter+Phillips+1stwill get ya a good d-man for top 4 duties. And you'll have some top quality prospects coming up!
Adding in that first will get you a lower tier top pairing D-man, no need to shoot that high. Just need a decent mid-pairing guy... someone of Gilbert's caliber. Much cheaper to obtain, no need to add a draft pick with Clutter and Phillips in that case.
given the current rosters, regular season should be fine...and who knows if they'll even make the playoffs haha
Also, how to do you guys feel about moving Seto? I know there were a few rumors about it; do you think he's too talented to move or worth it for the right pieces?
I think he has better value to the Wild actually staying on the roster right now. He played last season injured for the most part which brought his numbers down. Trading him now is trading him when his trade value is down. Thus, keep him this year, hope his numbers improve with a healthy season with better supporting cast around him, and go from there.

Hey yeah definitely go Rangers! I don't think Devils make the playoffs at all, so you guys should have no problem with him.
I see no reason at all to trade Setoguchi, not unless our prospects Coyle, Zucker, Larsson and of course Granlund all turn out to be top 6 worthy which as much as i like all of them i do not believe will happen. We would get very little in return right now anyway, and I think he'll have a bounce back year now healthy and with a better supporting cast like Talon said and be very good.
I see Clutterbuck and Phillips being our top 2 trading chips come deadline this year, and I think they should give or take other pieces be enough to land a top 4 defenseman. That to me is our biggest need for the short term, until Brodin and Dumba fully develop and take over that role.
