Really pleased to see that you're having fun with the MLD. mascots and everything.
Second stage after completing all the positions in the first stage.

The exchange of perspectives makes the MLD worthwhile.

You're gonna split the wings up? Sorry, this is probably misplaced discussion...

Nothing about the split of forwards has been decided yet and there is no need to. Might keep them all together

IMO, the more the better. The early parts of the these lists are always boring

Perhaps, but if so that's only because so much of their content has been discussed in other contexts, whereas later in the lists we are discussing guys who don't get a ton of airtime on here.

I think the early discussions on the goaltenders list are going to be good because unlike with the defensemen where #1 is virtually unanimous and most people are pretty entrenched about most of the top 10, with goaltenders there's no consensus #1 and a lot of room for volatility in the rankings. I think I know who the top 6 are going to be, but no clue as to what order.

55-60 names.... a final list of 40.

Lists should also be vetted to ensure than different eras and leagues are included on an all-time hockey history list: this is not just an NHL list! I fear several voters will have one or two token non-NHLer on their top 40 list, if that!

40C + 20RW + 20 LW + 20 F (where the 20F comes last and includes rovers plus definitely multipositional forwards, especially of older eras and dual position guys who fell through the cracks, basically 20 of the best forwards of the top-100 forwards of all-time that were not in the C,RW,LW voting or didn't reach enough votes there for some reason due to positional play).

I like this idea. It's like B-final or something. Maybe type of players i.e. Zetterberg or Demitra (C/LW) could make it or wingers who were passed due their ability to play both wings.

I'd support moving to only adding three players each round. I actually thought the pace of the dman project was to high after the predictable top 10. We didn't have time to dicsuss all ten players in depth each round. Which was unfortunate, since the difference between players is smaller the lower you get on the list.

As I said above, I like adding 3 players per round for 10 rounds for a top 30 list and 4 players per round for 10 rounds for a top 40.

So far, most people who have weighed in seem to prefer a top 40 list

Edit: since a lot of people seem to think more is better, technically we could add 3 per round for 15 rounds and make a top 45 goalies of all time list. Thought on that?. Would 15 rounds drag on too long? I though interest last time declined after round 10, but that might have been because of the holidays

Maybe there should be an official poll to vote on how big the list should be. It looks like there support for 30, 40, 45...I'm still hoping for 50 or 60.

I think the reason it died down towards the end in the defencemen list was because there was a fluke where there was a lack of modern players in the last two votes. The final vote had 17 defencemen, but only 3 of them had started their careers after 1970. I can't see that happening with the goalie vote because there are far fewer goalies from the pre-expansion era relative to the post-expansion era than with the other positions.

The defencemen list was awesome. Overpass, seventieslord and tarheelhockey among others did a great job in presenting research about the players. I learned a lot from it, and I'm really looking forward to this list.

Vote in order your top 5 choices between the following:

Top 30 goalies of all time
Top 40 goalies of all time
Top 45 goalies of all time
Top 50 goalies of all time
Top 60 goalies of all time

Edit: this will be decided on a points system, 5pts for your first choice, 4 for your second, etc

That's my order, actually. The fewer votes total, the more effort we can put into getting it right, the more discussion we can put into each round.

The odd number bugs me But I agree with JJ, a shorter list with more intense discussion is best.

In the event that we feel there is more to be said about the 31-50 crowd, there's always Canadiens1958's idea to have a sort of "MLD" process on the back end.

3. 50
4. 30
5. 60

*I like doing 4 per round for each of my top 3 choices. I know it doesn't divide evenly, but you can just adjust the first rounds...

For 45, do 3 the first 3 rounds then 4 from there on (12 rounds total)
For 50, do 3 the first 2 rounds then 4 from there on (13 rounds total)
