you mean for his stellar performances in 2009 and 2010?

the reason that playoffs AREN'T worth anything is because they are a small sample size. every time someone says "yeah but *vomit* playoffs" just dismiss them quietly or insultingly as you see fit

Players don't get a salary for the playoffs.

WTF is the matter with some of you people?

The day Burrows was placed with the Sedins, they transformed from PPG players with question marks to 100+ point league MVP's, He is our best Pk'er, 30 goal man, heart and soul of the team, solid playoff guy, seems to play better as the pressure and games get bigger, and when he is dropped to other lines it's always to spark other players or even out the lines - not because he isn't carrying his weight. Frankly, I would take Burrows over Kesler any day of the week.

Burrows saved this entire core group and made **** loads of money for the team when he scored that goal against Chicago.

The only difference between Burrows and guys like Nash and Perry is their paths to the NHL, and Burrows is still getting the shaft from many people for not getting drafted.

You've lost your credibility there.

Kesler > Burrows. Any GM who takes Burrows over Kesler should be fired.

Kesler's your 40 goal scorer, Selke winner. Great on PKs and don't necessarily need to play with the Sedins to score.

It continues to seem like people are so shortsighted to forget Kesler was one of the main reasons we made it to the SCF two playoffs ago.

Also, Kesler's 4 years younger and reaching his prime.

Kesler has scored 40 goals once, while Burrows has hovered at around the 30 goal pace for 4 years now and as far as Selke goes, Burrows is every bit as worthy as Kesler (this is where I think draft status and player likeability come into play).

As far as age goes, I'm not really talking about future - I'm saying that if I have one game that I was to bet everything I had, and the choice was to play either Burrows or Kesler, I'd pick Burrows.

Burrows probably shouldn't get any more than $5.5 as the current system is. But he's worth every penny of tht to the Canucks. He's not the classiest player but he is more heart and soul with his play than anyone on a team tht has little of it.

Although I completely agree with you, you take Kesler based on age alone.

If it were your "one game, and one game only" scenario, I'd pick Burrows as well.

He didn't say they do, but just pointed out that playoff performance would/should be taken into account when considering the value of the player and therefore their contract.

One of the things that is so wonderful about Burrows is that he's this totally unusual daydream fantasy player -- the kind of story that they make movies about. Fiesty, never-say-die, undrafted, comes from nowhere, claws his way to the top. SUPER clutch.

If you're cheering for his team, you WANT that guy to succeed! You want him to make it to the ultimate summit of his career -- the Stanley Cup.

That he has so many detractors amongst fans around the league is also, in itself, a testament to how amazing he is. How dangerous he is to the competition.

So would you be comfortable paying Burrows $6mil a year? Because Kesler is easily worth $5.5mil, likely a bit more...

I think you're overlooking Kesler's work on the PP and what it's done for the team. He's been a huge part of our man advantage offense and his work as the net front guy really catapulted our top PP unit.

Even strength and on the PK I agree Burrows and Kesler are comparable, it's on the PP where Kesler is clearly superior. That and the fact he's a centreman make Kesler the more valuable player IMO.

Kesler is worth 6mil a season longterm right now, thats what Jordan Staal got. Kesler certainly has more value than Burrows though, in all facets. Plus, he's a centerman which is usually a more coveted position than wing. I realize many people are down on Kesler right now due to his poor season, I expect that to turn around though after this year. I do think both players are close in terms of value to this team, but Kesler is still clearly and undisputedly ahead of him.

That's some deep **** man. Thanks Tim.

Yep. I'd have no problem giving Burrows 5/6 years @ $4.5M per and aNMC.

I'm hoping that's what we can sign him for. I think on the open market he gets $5-6M easily. But I also think this is a fair contract if he wants to retire a Canuck.

I love Burrows as much as the next Canucks fan, but offering him anything over 4M for more than 4 years is dangerous. He is getting older and his production will likely start to decrease in a couple of years. I would offer a maximum length and dollar amount of 4yr@16M.
