I hope the Banana is correct Mike, I cringe to say that DC is though, there will be hockey again this year, no way Ilitch and MLSE/NHL miss out on the money grab that is the "Winter Classic"
So, in your opinion it doesn't matter if the two sides are far apart and there's a general mood of pessimism after the first day of talks. They're just as likely to reach agreement in a timely fashion as though the two sides weren't far apart and optimism ruled. That's interesting.
It's not like there's a linear correlation between time and agreement level. This is all posturing, both sides will be more willing to compromise the second it starts hitting their wallets.
A couple of months sounds about right, something like what the NBA just had.
One theory I have heard that makes sense is that alot of the owners who are losing money aren't in a real hurry and will hold out to negotiate. Many are losing money and these tend to be the smaller US markets who have to compete with the World Series and college football/NFL in the fall which makes fall the worst time of year for them. I'm sure in Dallas, the Stars are barely on the radar until after the Cowboys are done their season.
Monkey see, monkey do. That's the ''everybody'' Cherry is talking about?
Really I couldn't care less what they do. As it is I only watch one team and that was my reason for cancelling Center Ice.
The only expense I put out is for the Hockey News and that is up for re-newel. Please tell what to do.
Donald Fehr is at the helm- this guy was front and center when baseball missed the World Series in 1994. He means business.
My guess is ends around Thanksgiving, couple of weeks for Camp- lots of AHL players in the regular lineup and the players get the best of the owners this time around.
I could deal with a reprise of the '94 lockout, but not a repeat of the '04 debacle.
this is how I feel- not to broken up if I miss 2 months- I'll see plenty of hockey in the AHL with 3 teams about an hour or less from me. However, Donald Fehr is no push over and ran the much more powerful baseball PA for years. If I am a player I like having this guy as a leader- I think he'll balance this out and get the owners to blink sometime around Thanksgiving and two weeks before Christmas,
It's going to be bad- and this place will be nuclear by Halloween

Nah, the PB`s board will be blown up for sure with potentially all those prospects so many of us were hoping to see fight it out for NHL spots. Like you stated, there are options, I don`t have 3 such as you, but I have Nathan Mackinnon to occupy my time here in Halifax, not too bloody bad
Blasphemy. I want all 82 games. In fact. Give me like 60 more. Just play hockey all year. Can't get enough. It's so good. It feels so good when it hits your eyes, and goes into your mind grapes.
Hey Twine! Great to see you around here again
I want my 82 game regular season too. The worst time of the year for me are the months between the last Cup Final game and the opening of training camp so shortening the regular season is a no go for me.
As for another lockout- wtf is wrong with the NHL & NHLPA? Did they learn nothing from the last one? Apparently not because here we are again.
I hope there is no lock out. I am so thirsty for hockey to begin already. And I can't believe I am reading post's that the season is to long. Are you CraZy! 82 games is fine, tho I wouldn't mind it getting cut back to 80 games. I love that the playoffs are in itself a mini season lol its awesome!

Its going to f*&^en suck if we have no Hockey till December. I am a huge football fan also but they only play once a week of course. errrrr I look forward to my Bruins playing every other day or so its great.
Team Banana is going down, I fear. I am *so sick* of these bloody owners! Someone mentioned that Chris Kelly "wouldn't be surprised" if the first puck drop is the Classic. *January.*

If a lockout is inevitable, as a Mooseheads fan, I'm glad it's this year.
Exactly, as of right now it is all just talk, nothing has been finalized yet. I am still under the impression the season is going to start right on time.
eggzactly! That and all of a sudden i've got a hankering for a banana.
Oh well, if Grapes is right then at least we can say the B's have gone 2 Novembers in a row with no regulation losses. That's something to hang your hat on.
Personally, I think we should stop asking all this fruit.
I wish I knew how to perform this embedding sorcery, because if I could then this would be the time to show that scene from "My Big Fat Greek wedding" where the brides dad makes the toast and talks about the root of the name Miller being "Milo, and as many of you know, our name, Portokalos, is come from the Greek word " portokali," which mean "orange." So, okay? Here tonight, we have, ah, umm, apple, and a orange. But really, we all fruit."

If the lock out ends just before the winter classic that leads me to believe that the players will have won. If the owners fold before that event I think that Bettman will have lost a lot of credibility. I'm all for Bettman getting his butt whipped but I don't see that happening before Jan 1st. Fehr is a very clever opponent and should give Bettman all he can handle, this is not Bob Goodenow.

I think the battle is more owner vs owner than it is NHL vs NHLPA.
When the top revenue producing teams increase their revenue each year and don't spend the increase in cap because a) the bottom line is more important or b) they are already near the cap they are also forcing the smaller market teams with a stagnant growth in revenues or already losing money to spend more money because of the increase in cap floor.
So the teams making the big bucks are all for the players receiving a lower HRR and the NHL's proposal because they don't have to increase revenue sharing and it's even more money for their pockets. The teams at the bottom wouldn't be seeing any more profit, they'd just be seeing less of a loss. Which is why they would prefer the NHLPA's offer because with their proposed revenue sharing, there'd be a more level playing field and less teams operating in the red.
Agent Alan Walsh has already said he's talked to some higher up execs of those smaller market/money losing teams and they are all for the NHLPA proposal with the exception of the numbers.
A lot of the smaller issues have already been dealt with in sub-committee level and there is agreement on them. And once the big market teams start losing their huge profits, they'll either cave or force the hand of the smaller guys. And then a deal should come quickly with the smaller issues already being dealt with.
