I can't even believe someone running/owning a professional hockey league thought to himself, you know, this is a great idea!!!

A team that plays on an outdoor surface all year long, to include practices.............

Admire the women who said that because they'll travel to Wilkes-Barre that fans stay and watch Williamsport. I can promise 10 games will change that point of view.

Don't ask me why but Elmira is affiliating with Williamsport:

Probably because they are a 90 minute drive from each other.

Yeah but why waste the time with cash with an FHL Affiliate.

Something in there about cross promoting. LOL. Nobody from here is gunna go to Williamsport to watch FHL Hockey.

Trenton had the Outlaws last year, and we didn't get squat from them... The Jackals are wasting their time with them...

We only got a couple players from them, but they eventually had to be sent back to the Outlaws!!

So basically, an FHL affiliate is useless?

Not that the Aces would have one or anything. It would be too damn expensive to fly anyone from the East Coast all the way up to Anchorage.

I would think that for Elmira, it might be somewhat useful. With the call-ups they go through on a regular basis, an FHL affiliate would give them access to bodies for some games. The talent level is debateable. I know that Wheeling and Brooklyn had been affiliated in the past, but there were very few guys called up except for the infamous "Pittsburgh does not care about Wheeling" situation. It just depends. Would you rather go out and get the players on your own or with somebody who is theoretically developing players that fit your systems?

In a bind for us it may help. But we could pluck from any FHL team. Not sure how the finances work here. Not sure if we are paying anything for it. It could just be a plea to get people from Williamsport to drive up, cross promtion was used in the article. Granted nobody from Elmira will drive 2 hours for that trainwreck.

The ECHL-FHL affiliation is a trivial thing. It never seems to work with the SPHL and the ECHL. I know that Wheeling had an affiliation with Brooklyn who is no longer in the FHL. They also had one with Asheville of the SPHL many years back. The Aces went bye-bye. I guess the word of advice would be not to affiliate with the Nailers if you are in the FHL or the SPHL. Seriously, I find it interesting to track the minor league affiliates of each team.

Another filing attached to the suit is a copy of a statement by Nathan J. Cook, a member of Elm Arena, from a separate case in Chemung County Supreme Court.

In that statement, filed Aug. 3, Cook says Elm Arena “is currently negotiating with the Federal Hockey League (to let a team in that league) play games in the arena in during the 2012-13 Federal Hockey League season.”

Williamsport... If games are cancelled because of poor ice conditions or inclement weather they will play in Elmira.

At least it is better than their old double D's. That logo was not appealing at all. I never thought i would see the day I would say that.

Hey now..... they at least had the common decency to flip the trident and change the colors so as to at least make it seem like they didn't outright steal it.

Is it really a big deal if it's upside down and a different color?

I think so, no matter what direction its pointing or what color it is they are trying to brand a team by poorly editing another teams logo. They are stealing from the artist that created the logo and the university that paid for it

There are a ridiculous amount of talented graphic designers looking for work who would jump at a chance to brand a sports team.

Yes, because it's still theft. They took someone else's (probably copyrighted) design, made two basic changes, and then tried to pass it off as their own. Under no circumstances is that tolerable.

Sure, there are only so many ways you can make a trident logo, but that's a blatant carbon copy with just two tweaks.

Trademarked (not copyrighted). Still IP (intellectual property).

Good to know. Mix those two terms up all the time.

But especially if it's trademarked, there is a legal avenue here if the university's interested in going after some random low-tier hockey team over a thousand miles away. Much like the Catholic high school in my home town of Champaign that utterly ripped off the Predators with their logo design, somehow doubt that they'd think it'd be worthwhile to be litigious about, though.

Still a classless move by the "designer" and by the organization if they keep it after they become aware of the obvious theft.

for the record the "designer" is Ryan Harrison formerly of the AAHL. He is listed as the Devils director of online media

and originally posted the logo on FB below the headline "Logo I created for the devils, what do you think?"
