Very happy to hear about Heard. He is my dark horse this year to make it on the team and stick once he is up. I don't think he'll make it out of camp but he has a shot at it. But definitely I could see him being one of the first to be called up for the 4th line.

NHL.com calling Aittokallio the Avs first Finnish prospect, forgetting they've drafted Ville Nieminen, Riku Hahl, Mikko Viitanen, Mikko Kalteva, and probably a few others. Hopefully for their sake, they meant to say first Finnish goalie prospect, but who knows.

Thought they left out Elliott in their top ten too, but I guess technically he's not a rookie anymore, so I guess they don't consider him a prospect.

Hey guys. Over at the Rangers board we are about to start the 2nd season of our keeper league. I've been Colorado, and so far I've held on to Hishon. Honestly I don't know much about the Avalanche prospects but I know Hishon has struggled with injuries.

I just thought I'd check in here and find out what the latest is on Hishon. Is he worth waiting for or should I try to move him?

I think he is healthy now and should be good to go for training camp so I would hold on to him unless you got a really good offer.

You've hung onto him thus far, unless someone blows you away he's worth sticking it out. He's got some tremendous drive by all accounts (training with O'Reilly) and has slick hands, destined to be a winger in the NHL though.

His injury was reported to be more whiplash than concussion related, so some of us are speculating that once symptoms subside he might stand a better chance at recovery than someone such as Mueller most recently for us.

He has a small chance of getting the Olver-treatment with us (plays ~20-30 games in the AHL to prove he's recovered and then gets the rest of the season in the NHL) and an even bigger chance of making the roster in two years as a scoring forward.

That makes me feel a lot better. Thanks for the information.

Speaking of Olver, I was really surprised to see he is rated 83 in NHL 13 (that's how our keeper league sims).

He's 73, 83 was a typo. However, Olver is one of my favorite players on the team.

So what do you guys think about the Oils fans saying Klefbom > Siemens and the Canadien which just said Thrower > Siemens?

It's in the Kelfbom thread on the trade board, I stopped posting after a few posts with an Oiler mod because I figured it was the wrong place to go into any depth about the discussion after I said I simply disagreed with the opinion Klefbom had surpassed every defender in his draft sans Larsson and Hamilton.

I think it's useless (but fun) to compare prospects. Difficult enough to compare players who are in the NHL already. We'll see who's better once they'll all play in the big league.

Whoever said that is flat out wrong. As for Klefom I'd really like to hear the reasoning why he's the 3rd best defensman in his class.

I actually like Klefbom quite a bit but I think that's a pretty big guess at this point. Klefbom looked great besides Brodin at the World Juniors though but you know how fans are. Oiler fans were ELATED with MPS after they drafted him...are they still elated now? My guess is no, not even close. Same with habs fans. I remember being told that Alex Avtsin was going to be the biggest thing since sliced bread. Seems they've backed off of that stance, just a tad.

I've been on HFboards for 10 years and there are things that are always constant. Canadian teams with huge fan bases come with A LOT of fans, a lot of knowledgeable ones but also A LOT of posers. That and the fact that Avs prospects have always, always, always flown under the radar from the more mainstream 'posers'. Always.

Well I mean, it was a mod I was aruging with about Klefbom, his WJC apparantly makes him better than Siemens.

But I'm curious to hear from the people who have definitely seen them both often enough to decide.

In SEL games I saw him play he looked average. I'd still take Siemens over him.

I've been following our players in training camp through twitters & reports and Colin Smith has had a beast of a training camp for Kamloops.

Plus he just got a prime assist in their first preseason game.
1-0 against Victoria, early in the 2nd.

I'm still not used to our new prospects, they all are simply classified as "Small offensive centers" in my mind right now.

I also wonder if there's actually lower odds they make it to the NHL simply due to their size than of a larger, similarly skilled player.

Siemens listed at 6'4, 209 at camp.

He was 6'3, 205 last year I think.
