No interest in trading anything of value to get Luongo, let alone adding more to trade for Ballard who can't even hold down a top 4 spot on Vancouvers defense.
Hjalmarsson >Ballard Crawford +1st > Luongos value
While I really like the Caps, it woul be nice if Holtby struggles and you become a suitor for Luongo. You have great prospects and great roster players and are out of conference.
Even if Holtby struggles, Washington won't go after Luongo. Do all Canuck's fans think as soon as any teams goalie starts struggling even a little bit, their going to just run to Vancouver for Luongo at the price of great prospects and players that they spent years collecting? Holtby is a young goalie and he'll have growing pains. It'll take more than just him struggling for Washington to cave into a Gillis proposal.

The Caps have Ribeiro as a rental. They will be looking to make a deep playoff run now that they have 2 legit top6 centres. If Holtby doesn't seem up to the job, then I could definitely see them trading for Luongo. It's only a hypothetical though, I doubt it would happen.
Crawford sucks, so there's not many people he'd be considered an "Upgrade" over, and Holtby certainly isn't one of the exceptions. (Unless he's nothing like he played in the playoffs)
Maybe you missed the part where I said I wouldn't give anything of value for Luongo?
It may have not been missed, but given that there are several Hawks fans out there who might have different opinions, it may have simply been blithely ignored.
Just a theory.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!
Would definitely be interested in turning Schultz in Hjalmarsson, or adding Hammer in general. Not really interested in changing Neuvirth (24) into Crawford (27).

Literally zero chance Washington makes a move for Luongo, even if Holtby struggles. We have Neuvirth who has taken a team beyond the first round before and just because we acquired Ribeiro doesn't mean this is any sort of "all in" year for us.
I didn't know the Hawks were taking on other team's cap dumps. Luongo would be an upgrade but no way and I mean no way in hell are we taking on Ballard's contract and that is on top of what we are giving up in the first place. Thanks but no thanks.
I am guessing Caps fans wont be happy with the second deal. Crawford's value is an all time low.
neither trade was looked at from either chicago's or washington's perspective

I just wish everyone would stop trying to push Luongo onto the Blackhawks. The first time Luongo gave up a soft goal, the Chicago fans would come down on him hard on him...and they wouldn't let up.

He hasn't tried to throw himself into the Pacific Ocean yet so I think he'd do okay in Chicago pressure-wise.

Pfft, Blackhawks fans have had it easy. Try being a Florida fan.
Luongo, Ballard for 2 late 1sts, Jeff Schultz, and Neuvirth.
Van looks like bandits here.
Chicago says no and gladly keeps Hjammer who is cheaper and better than Ballard and keeps his 1st.
Luongo to Chicago would be OK for me, but you won't get anything of real value like our good roster players, Saad, TT or our 1st in what is supposed to be a deep draft.
Can have our garbage if you want for taking on his bad contract. Paying Luongo 6+ million with a 5+ Cap Hit in 3 years could be worse than having Redden or Huet
