It's fairly close to what I said the other day at 4.00-4.50m. People scoffed at me saying it would be 5.50m and up. Bah. I'm thrilled he's staying.

I don't know. I hope Tim is right. $5.5m kind of high for 6 years.

Per Twitter:

No owner loves being an NHL owner or is more generous/loyal to his players than Ed Snider. CBA has not expired yet. Playing by rules.

More are alos confirming , fantastic. Under 5 mill per is awesome. I am sure it includes a NMC, but has to for that cap hit

Tim Panaccio ‏@tpanotchCSN

hartnell gave up $$ now so he could get extra years. NHL deals are guaranteed right now in this CBA

If its indeed a 4.75 cap hit this is reasonable money to lock up a Veteran leader who brings some needed grit and produces on a regular basis.

He probably won't remain a first line winger scoring 37goals for the remainder of his contract but he plays a physical style, likes to park himself in front of the net taking care of the garbage which means he does not really depend on mobility or speed and he can still be effective at age 36 or later.

Oh well. Good to have him, and I'm glad we get the contract done before the CBA even if it's going to cost us money.
Way to be there Chris.

Seriously good deal. I was expecting at least 5-5.5, fearing 6.5.

this is exactly why i was fine with Jagr moving on..

the players on the roster from last year basicly learned everything they needed to learn from Jag's..

now its up to them to implement it..

LOVE IT

Was holding off because he only had a year left but a jersey is definitely going on order...

I know, after you posted 6.5 I quickly convinced myself that was a possibility.

Great deal for Hartnell and the Flyers.

While this offseason may have been a loss in some respects... it's been good in others.

He got overpaid by the 0.50m-0.25m because we had to extend him right after his career season instead of waiting until next offseason when his numbers would revert closer to mean.

Still, I'm pleased. Had he hit the open market 5.50m was a real possibility.

If he can continue to put up numbers like last year, its an amazing deal.

The problem is that last year was likely an anomaly.
