Crazy to think he's already 26. Feels like the other day i was watching him get drafted, hoping he would do great things for this team after such a miserable season. I don't think anyone expected him to be this good.

Huzzah! This means less than three months until I catch up to him.

Wow I've accomplished nothing.

Too old. Trade him for Bobby Ryan and a conditional 7th.

That's true. I forgot about cake.

This is HF boards, we would have to add since Ryan's value went up big time this off season

Geno just continues to impress - my faith never wavered in this guy, even when some folks were suggesting to trade him and bump up Staal into the #2C spot. It's amazing to see what he can do out there on the ice now that he has a legit linemate in Neal.

Better winger than center. Has totally lost it after a couple of fluke seasons. Lazy and enigmatic. Doesn't care about winning or improving his game. Probably just got lucky last year and was totally being carried by Neal (and probably somehow Staal, too.... for good measure) anyway.

Happy (belated) birthday, Geno, you washed up old man.

Yah that period was painful to endure. You don't trade a borderline generational talent like Malkin. Ever. The only time you do is if he becomes a bad teammate or asks for so much money as to cause major problems for the team (which you know he won't - that's not who he is as a player or person). Or if he wants to go play with his long-lost brother. But honestly, I think he values training with Kadarov in the summers more than playing with any relative. Common!

he may currently be a persona non grata (actually the opposite - they'd welcome him to camp he just won't come by till he gets paid) but Mike Wallace also just turned 26 (a day after Geno).

It's HF. If Geno starts this season with only 1 goal and 3 points, those people will come out of the woodwork again.

funny that in the year leading up to the draft, the word around here was that geno was a powerforward.

I just posted something in the Geno and Stamkos generational talents thread on the main board, and I've got to add it here:

In this last 60 years, only 4 players (Mario, Gretz, Espo, Howe) have multiple times won a scoring title (a) by more than 10 points and (b) by a margin of more than 0.10 PPG more than the next closest person in the top 10 in scoring.

Only 6 other players had done it even ONCE:

You had Hull, Mikita, and Orr in the 1960's. Guy Lafleur did it in 1975-1976. Jagr did it in 1998-1999 (20 points more but only 0.13 PPG more than Selanne).

Since then . . . nobody, until this year.

Geno won it by 12 points, but even more impressively by 0.25 PPG more than the next closest guy (Giroux).

The knee injury lit a fire under his ***. He's finally got linemates (he had Neal all year, and played with Kunitz too by early December).

IMO, he's going to put together a couple of more years like this, where you can look at what he does on the ice and say to yourself 'he was that much better than anyone else this season' (where being that much better means joining Mario, Gretz, Espo, and Howe as the only players in the last 60 years to win a scoring race by more than 10 points and 0.10 PPG).

The minute he scored that famous goal against Brodeur, i was pretty convinced he would become that good.
Actually, i expected him to be even better!
Happy Birthday, Geno!!
